On December 8, RELX launched the new electronic vaporizer product, the RELX Phantom. This follows the release of the RELX Infinity earlier this year, marking another new product from RELX. The unique 4-segment battery level indicator design on the RELX Phantom displays remaining battery and charging progress at all times, alleviating users' battery anxiety. Additionally, breakthroughs have been made in charging speed, battery capacity, and oil leakage technology.
As a milestone in RELX's research and innovation, the RELX Phantom has applied for multiple patents, including the labyrinth airflow design.
According to RELX's Chief Product Officer, Chen Chen, the new product was developed based on user experience data, systematically addressing pain points in the user experience. During the design and development phase, the product team completed 51 design verifications, using over 15,000 atomizers for reliability and flavor testing.
"Our relentless pursuit of enhancing product experience comes at any cost, and we never slack off," said Chen.
Tide Battery Indicator: Clear Control of Battery Level
The RELX Phantom features a 4-segment LED battery level indicator. When users inhale or insert a pod into the Phantom device, the battery indicator lights up sequentially, displaying the remaining battery in a dynamic tide-like effect. During charging, the battery indicator also allows users to intuitively understand the charging status and how long it will take to fully charge.
In terms of battery, the RELX Phantom uses a Type-C standard input. Compared to the first generation, the new product has a 9% increase in battery capacity and a 31% improvement in charging efficiency.
This innovative design stems from long-term user insights: How long can the product last? Will it run out of battery when I want to use it? Do I need to bring a charging cable when I go out today? How long will it take to charge? These concerns are common among users of electronic vaporizers.
"The design of the tide battery indicator focuses on solving users' 'unknown battery anxiety,'" Chen explained. "In user research, we found that 77.6% of users do not know the remaining battery when going out, and nearly 50% have experienced sudden battery depletion, which is frustrating. Knowing the remaining battery ranks first among the features users want to add."
While adding features, how can we create the optimal interaction effect for the battery indicator? If the light effect is too fast, it suggests urgency and anxiety; if too slow, it gives a sense of sluggishness and unresponsiveness.
In this detail that many may not notice, the product design team based the rhythm of the battery indicator on the human breathing frequency of 3 seconds per cycle, aligning it with RELX users' inhalation habits. After 33 rounds of software version iterations and optimizations, the battery indicator now pulses at a frequency of 1.4 seconds per cycle. The smooth and comfortable tide light effect gives the RELX Phantom a high-tech feel, whether in use or during charging.
