Why Your Vape Produces Less Vapor Over Time — Causes and Solutions

As you use an e-cigarette over time, the vapor production often becomes weaker than when it was brand new. This can happen whether you’re using a high-vapor box mod or a compact pod-style device. So why does this happen?

Today, WanYanNet will explain the reasons and how to solve these problems.

Issue 1: Vapor becomes very light shortly after starting to use it

Cause analysis:

If vapor production drops rapidly within a short period of time, the cause is most likely a product quality issue.

For example, the atomizer may have been made with a coil of excessively high resistance during production, or the wick material may be substandard and unable to absorb e-liquid properly. It could also be due to poor battery cell quality.

Solution:

These problems are caused by product quality, so once you’ve purchased it, there’s usually no way to fix or adjust it yourself. The only practical option is to return it. That’s why it’s important to choose established brands before buying—at the very least, a recognized brand offers more assurance.

Issue 2: After using it for a while, vapor production becomes noticeably lower

Cause analysis:

1. For high-vapor mechanical mods and box mod products, the atomizer is often clogged, carbon buildup has formed, or the wick has been scorched;

2. For compact pod-style products, the atomizer is often simply worn out, causing the atomization performance to weaken significantly or stop working altogether;

Solution:

1. Clean the atomizer using clean warm water if possible. After washing it thoroughly, dry it with a hair dryer or let it air dry naturally;

2. Because atomizers in compact pod-style products are usually integrated and cannot be disassembled, their lifespan is generally around 10–15 days. If this happens, just buy a new atomizer or replacement pod, and the price is usually not very high.

Issue 3: Incorrect settings cause no vapor production

Cause analysis: The atomizer resistance and battery voltage settings do not match, so the battery cannot provide enough voltage for the atomizer to operate.

Solution: Replace the battery or the atomizer so that the specifications match.

Issue 4: Vapor becomes weaker after switching e-liquid

Cause analysis: You may have switched to an e-liquid with a lower VG content. VG (commonly known as vegetable glycerin) is one of the essential ingredients in vape e-liquid, and its main function is to produce vapor. So if you switch to an e-liquid with lower VG, vapor production will decrease.

Solution: When buying e-liquid, check the product description carefully or ask the seller about the VG content. If you want more vapor, choose one with higher VG. If you want less vapor, choose one with lower VG.
