A Few Simple Ways to Prevent Leaking in High-Vapor E-Cigarette Atomizers

Most people have experienced the situation where e-liquid is leaking from the atomizer, making a mess everywhere. Almost all of us have encountered this issue, but some people seem unable to stop the leaking, which is a common and frustrating problem. I often receive many questions from vapers about how to deal with leaking, and there are several methods to prevent it. Here are a few simple ways to stop your atomizer from leaking.

?

Properly Adding E-Liquid

This is the most common and easiest step to avoid leaking. The central airway of the atomizer runs through the entire atomizer to the top drip tip. Although the manual indicates not to add e-liquid into the airway, it is quite common to accidentally get e-liquid in there, which can lead to slow leaking. When adding e-liquid, be sure to carefully avoid the airway. If e-liquid accidentally gets in, clean it up with a tissue before use. Do not overfill the tank; it is recommended to fill it to two-thirds full. Leave some space at the top to create a vacuum in the tank, which helps prevent e-liquid leakage.

Check Your O-Rings

Worn or damaged O-rings are also a common cause of leaking. Disassemble your atomizer and carefully check the O-rings. If they are damaged, cracked, or missing, it means the seal of your atomizer has been compromised. You need to replace the O-rings as soon as possible.

Check the Sealing of Your Atomizer

If the various parts of the atomizer are not properly secured together, e-liquid can leak out from the gaps. First, check if the threads of your atomizer's parts are aligned, then tighten them and ensure the tank is sealed. Be careful not to over-tighten, as this can also lead to leaking. After tightening the atomizer just right, give it a slight additional turn. If the threads are stripped, try to re-tighten them in the correct position, using the non-stripped side to fix the stripped area. If it still won’t tighten, it may be irreparable, and you might need to replace that part or even the entire atomizer.

Keep the Atomizer Upright

Some atomizers cannot be laid flat for long periods. If you leave it lying flat overnight, e-liquid may leak out through the airflow. If you are not using it for a long time, keep the atomizer upright. If your battery needs charging, remove the atomizer and keep it upright before charging.

?

Airflow Closed or Insufficient

If your atomizer has bottom airflow and the airflow is accidentally closed or adjusted to the minimum, the air entering the airway will decrease, increasing the draw resistance. However, if you draw too hard, due to the pressure difference, you may force too much e-liquid into the atomizer coil, leading to flooding and leakage. Increase the airflow or reduce the draw strength to maintain normal pressure differences and avoid leaking from the atomizer coil.

Clean Your Atomizer

If you haven’t cleaned your atomizer for a while, the residue that accumulates inside may affect the tank and cause leaking. The simplest method is to disassemble the atomizer, rinse all parts except the coil with water, and then let them dry before reassembling. If you frequently change e-liquids, you need to clean the atomizer regularly.

Check for Cracks in the Atomizer

Check your atomizer for oil cracks and other damages. Small chips on the edges of the glass tank or deformed metal parts can cause the tank to no longer be sealed, leading to leaking. If your glass tank is damaged, replace it promptly with a spare tank.

Put the Top Cap On

Due to the nature of pressure in the atomizer, if your atomizer does not have a top cap, it can also leak e-liquid from the airflow. Perhaps after filling it, you got distracted and forgot to put the cap on. Whatever the reason, be sure to pay attention; if your top cap is going to be open for a long time, make sure the tank is empty. Closing the airflow can help somewhat, but it won’t completely prevent leakage, so it’s best to close the top cap promptly.
