What Color Options Are Available for the RELX 5th Gen Phantom?

On December 8, 2020, RELX launched its new vaping device, the RELX Phantom. This was another new product release from RELX following the launch of the RELX Infinity in January that year.

The RELX 5th Gen Phantom features a four-bar LED battery indicator built into the device body. When the user takes a puff or inserts a pod into the Phantom device, the battery lights illuminate in sequence, using a tide-like dynamic effect to display the remaining battery level. While charging, the battery lights also allow users to clearly understand the charging status and how much longer it will take at a glance.

In terms of battery performance, the RELX Phantom uses a Type-C standard charging port. Compared with the first-generation RELX product, the new device offers a 9% increase in battery capacity and a 31% improvement in charging efficiency.

This innovative design came from long-term user insights: How much battery life is left? Will it run out of power when I want to use it? Do I need to bring a charging cable when going out today? How much longer until it is fully charged? These concerns are common in the daily use of vaping devices.

“The original intention behind the tide battery light design was to focus on solving users’ ‘anxiety over unknown battery levels,’” said Chen Chen. “Our user research found that 77.6% of users did not know how much battery remained when they were out, and nearly 50% had experienced their device suddenly running out of power, which they found frustrating. Among the features users most wanted added, knowing the remaining battery level ranked first.”

At the same time, with added functionality came the question of how to create the optimal battery light interaction effect for users. If the lighting effect is too fast, it can suggest urgency and anxiety; if too slow, it can create a psychological sense of weak momentum and sluggish response.

In this subtle detail that many people may not even notice, the RELX 5th Gen product design team drew on bionics knowledge of the human breathing rhythm of 3 seconds per cycle, while also matching RELX users’ puffing habits. After 23 rounds of software iteration and optimization, they ultimately set the battery light to pulse rhythmically at a frequency of 1.4 seconds per cycle. The smooth and comfortable tide lighting effect gives the RELX Phantom a strong sense of technology both during use and while charging.
