Manufacturers Plan to Launch More Than 185,000 E-Cigarettes and Cartridges in the EU Market
According to Tobacco Reporter, as of July 2018, under the requirements of the revised EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD), manufacturers and importers planned to place more than 185,000 e-cigarettes and cartridges on the market.
The European Commission said that e-cigarettes on the EU market are regulated under Article 20 of the TPD. However, rules governing the use of tobacco and related products in public places are set by individual member states. The European Commission is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the relevant regulations in each member state.
The European Commission is responsible for monitoring market and scientific developments related to e-cigarettes. This information will help the Commission submit an implementation report by May 2021 in accordance with Article 28(1) of the Directive.
In the area of e-cigarettes and cartridges, the implementation report will cover market developments, their role in youth and non-smokers initiating use of these products, their impact on smoking cessation efforts, and measures taken by member states regarding flavors. At the same time, the Commission promotes information and experience sharing among member states on these products and supports online access to such information.
