Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance Launches Campaign to Legalize Vaping in Australia
The campaign is seeking signatures from 50,000 supporters to back vaping legalization, and Stonehouse plans to submit the signed petition to parliament before the end of 2018.
Stonehouse said that in most developed countries, the sale of nicotine vaping products is almost entirely legal, and that it is time for Australia to make some changes. He believes vaping is harmless and 95% healthier than smoking traditional cigarettes. If cigarettes are legal, then there is no reason vaping should not be legal as well, because it is better and healthier than cigarettes.
We are not encouraging non-smokers to try vaping, but the law is indeed preventing smokers who genuinely want an alternative from switching from harmful products to less harmful ones, which is not beneficial to their health.
Survey data shows that recent polling found 69% of voters in Perth and Fremantle support legalizing vaping. Stonehouse said the poll results show that more and more Australians want the government to allow vaping to be legalized, which he finds very encouraging.
At the same time, Stonehouse said he was pleased to be appointed spokesperson for the vaping legalization campaign. Over the next few months, they will continue discussing the petition with more members of the public, and also plan to work with leaders from major and minor parties who support the alliance’s campaign, encouraging them to speak out in favor of legalizing vaping as well.
