User Shares Feeling Misled After Buying the RELX Generation 3
I started using e-cigarettes quite early on. About ten years ago, Ruyan was popular, so I bought a set, but the flavors were too limited, and I stopped using it after a while. What really got me using consistently was buying IQOS in Japan. It was much better than Ruyan, but the tobacco sticks were too inconvenient to buy.

Then, out of curiosity, I tried RELX. The experience was no worse than IQOS, and it was cheaper. But when I went to the counter and saw so many generations of products, I was completely confused. I guess a lot of people are like me and just ask the salesperson for a recommendation. The salesperson recommended the Generation 3, saying it had the best flavor and the best vaporization performance. After that, all that was left was choosing pod flavors. I ended up spending more than 1,000 yuan on pods.
When I went back to buy pods again, I suddenly noticed a guy next to me buying a pod for only 33 yuan. Later, I asked the salesperson and found out that only the Generation 3 pods were that expensive. For the same price, you get 2 Generation 3 pods, but you can buy 3 pods for the other generations. Even then, the salesperson was still saying the Generation 3 had the best flavor and all that. I said I wanted to try the Generation 5, and after trying it, I found that aside from some differences in pod flavors, there was basically no real difference otherwise. At least I couldn’t tell. That’s when I realized why salespeople kept recommending the Generation 3: the profit margin is definitely different. For a recurring-consumption product, the device itself hardly matters in terms of money; pod consumption is where the biggest spending happens. Since it’s an ongoing expense, a 33.33% price difference really adds up over time. So I decisively bought a Generation 5 set as well. I’m sure my experience is far from unique. Even now, there are probably still people who think all pods cost the same. I’m sharing this so people who haven’t realized it yet can understand a bit better.
