E-cigarette pioneer Hon Lik rarely speaks out: opposes Hong Kong’s proposal to ban e-cigarettes
Recently, Mr. Hon Lik, known as the father of e-cigarettes, rarely spoke out regarding Hong Kong's recent proposal to ban e-cigarettes. He hopes the Hong Kong government will reconsider the proposal for a complete ban on vaping products, as it would affect the lives of current adult users of vaping products and those smokers who might consider switching to potentially less harmful alternatives.

Hon emphasized that he understands Hong Kong's cautious stance on vaping and the concerns regarding reports of underage vaping in the United States. However, the ban could be counterproductive, as evidence from countries including the U.S. and the U.K. shows that pragmatic regulation of vaping can help accelerate the decline in adult smoking rates.
It is understood that Hon is currently an advisor to the R&D team at Fontem Ventures, a subsidiary of the international tobacco giant Imperial Brands. The company recently submitted evidence to the Hong Kong Chief Executive's office, indicating that vaping can help reduce the harm of tobacco and improve the smoking status of adults in Hong Kong, suggesting that adults should be allowed to legally purchase vaping products and be given the right to choose.
