China Launches Special Inspection Campaign on the Vaping Device Market
Recently, the authorities have stepped up regulation of the vaping device market and have also taken a firm stance against the sale of vaping products to minors.

In 2019, in order to prevent minors from purchasing vaping products, China banned the sale of all vaping products on e-commerce platforms. Following that crackdown, the domestic vaping market became more standardized. However, some vaping companies changed their tactics and continued to entice minors into buying and using vaping products, seriously harming the physical and mental health of young people.
Today, the two departments decided to jointly launch a special inspection campaign targeting the vaping market, strengthen protections for minors from the harms of vaping products, comprehensively clean up online vaping sales through the campaign, tighten supervision of internet platforms, and effectively safeguard the physical and mental health of minors.
The two departments required all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities to establish joint task forces to coordinate and advance the implementation of the special inspection campaign within their jurisdictions. Authorities will sort through leads involving illegal online and offline promotion and sales of vaping products, investigate clues related to inducing minors to purchase and use vaping products, and carry out enforcement actions and rectification measures. The campaign will last for two months and will be carried out in three stages, ultimately promoting the establishment of a long-term governance mechanism for the vaping industry. (End)
