First of all, in China, IQOS ILUMA Prime and IQOS ILUMA are commonly referred to as the flip-cover version and the side-slide version. In Japan, the former is called the flagship version and the latter the standard version. In actual use, however, there is no difference between them.

The holders for both models are interchangeable; the only difference is the appearance of the charging case. The flip-cover fabric panel on the ILUMA Prime charging case can be replaced with accessories, so you can freely switch colors. All other functions are exactly the same, including the ability to control device settings through the web page (the previous Bluetooth app has already been removed).

So you may ask: what are the differences between IQOS ILUMA and IQOS 3 DUO?

The main differences are reflected in 7 aspects:

1. Visibly, the new model is slightly larger than the old one.

2. The flavor is purer. Because there is no heating blade, there are no extra impurities involved, and there is no tar buildup inside the holder like before, so the taste is better than previous generations.

3. No cleaning required. Without a heating blade, and with the tobacco material positioned in the center of the tobacco stick, there is no residue left behind. The holder stays clean, and unpleasant odors are no longer an issue.

4. Insert the tobacco stick and it heats automatically. This function can be turned off by logging into the web page with a Japanese official ID and connecting the device via Bluetooth.

5. Double-tap the holder to check the remaining usage level on the ILUMA. One vibration means 0% to 25% remaining, two vibrations mean 25% to 50%, three vibrations mean 50% to 75%, and four vibrations mean 75% to 100%. Personally, it feels a bit unnecessary.

6. There is no holder cap, so you no longer need to worry about losing the cap or accidentally breaking the heating blade when closing it.

7. The failure rate is reduced. Without a heating blade or holder cap, and with the tobacco material designed in the center of the tobacco stick, tar does not seep through, which helps lower the malfunction rate.
