Man Detained for 5 Days and Fined RMB 3,000 for Smoking on a Plane

In the early hours of August 16, on flight JD5186 (Chongqing-Sanya), a passenger reported smelling smoke in the restroom. After an investigation and analysis, the crew identified the smoker as passenger Yang and immediately called the police, confiscating his lighter and smoking device.
After the flight landed in Sanya, police from the Phoenix Airport terminal station took the man away for questioning. The investigation found that Yang had hidden a lighter in his carry-on luggage to get through security and secretly brought it onto the plane in order to smoke during the flight.

In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Public Security Administration Punishments Law of the People's Republic of China and the Civil Aviation Security Regulations of the People's Republic of China, police gave Yang an administrative detention of five days and a fine of RMB 3,000.
It is understood that, under the relevant regulations, smoking is prohibited on all flights, and open flames are strictly forbidden on the tarmac, including runway areas.
