In the early hours of August 16, on flight JD5186 (Chongqing-Sanya), a passenger reported smelling smoke in the restroom. After an investigation and analysis, the crew identified the smoker as passenger Yang and immediately called the police, confiscating his lighter and smoking device.

After the flight landed in Sanya, police from the Phoenix Airport terminal station took the man away for questioning. The investigation found that Yang had hidden a lighter in his carry-on luggage to get through security and secretly brought it onto the plane in order to smoke during the flight.
