Hotel Security Guard Beaten After Trying to Stop Guests from Smoking

Lanzhou Evening News (Chief Reporter Yu Yongzhao): On the night of August 28, Mr. Yao, a security guard at Jinbaihe Hotel in Qilihe District, was beaten after trying to stop four men from smoking, suffering multiple soft tissue injuries.

On August 29, Mr. Yao told reporters that at around 8 p.m. that evening, four men were smoking together in the hotel lobby. He stepped forward to dissuade them, and they then moved to the entrance to continue smoking, casually tossing their cigarette butts onto the steps outside. He went to clean them up, but the four men kept throwing their cigarette butts onto the ground. After sweeping them away, Mr. Yao advised them to throw the butts into a trash can instead, but the smokers deliberately went against him, intentionally continuing to throw them on the ground, even saying, “I threw them there, so what?” An argument then broke out, and Mr. Yao was surrounded and beaten by the four men, leaving him with multiple soft tissue injuries. He is currently confined to bed recovering. Mr. Yao said he hopes the public will care for the environment, respect the work of others, and be civilized citizens.
