Why Does Vaping Feel Unsatisfying or Unfamiliar?
Why does vaping feel unsatisfying or unfamiliar? Many people experience discomfort in their throat when they first try cigarettes, and they often feel as if the air is filled with the taste of tobacco. But why do we eventually become "addicts," and the initial discomfort fades away, making us feel like completely different people compared to our former selves?
This all comes down to the word "adaptation." Feeling uncomfortable when you first vape? Let's find out why.
E-cigarettes
The first time using an e-cigarette is similar to the first time smoking a cigarette; it feels unfamiliar because you haven't adapted yet. If you're trying to quit smoking, be sure to persist in turning discomfort into habit, as e-cigarettes are undoubtedly healthier than traditional cigarettes. If the e-cigarette is your first "smoke," then you've made the right choice on your smoking journey; just adapt gradually.
E-cigarette vapor
One situation is that, as a novice smoker, our respiratory organs are in an "undeveloped" state. The PG (propylene glycol) in e-cigarettes, a solvent, creates a throat hit when vaporized, which can be mistaken for irritation or harm. In reality, this is PG performing the role of tar and nicotine found in traditional cigarettes.
We all know that cigarette smoke consists of solid particles, and most harmful substances adhere to these particles and are absorbed by the body. However, we don't need so many harmful substances; we only enjoy the stimulation and pleasure brought by nicotine, which PG can replace in e-cigarettes. It's clear which method is purer and healthier.
Another situation is that due to long-term use of cigarettes, our bodies have become accustomed to tobacco rather than e-cigarettes. At this point, the e-cigarette feels like your first cigarette, but it is far less harmful than traditional cigarettes.
PG and VG
Whether you are a first-time e-cigarette user or a smoker, you may experience throat dryness and thirst when you first vape. This is because the e-liquid in e-cigarettes contains another ingredient, VG (vegetable glycerin), which is commonly known as glycerin. However, you might wonder, isn't glycerin a moisturizer? Why does it make you feel dry? The premise of VG's moisturizing effect is to absorb water. When e-cigarette vapor settles in our mouth or respiratory tract, it first occupies a small portion of the water in our body, which is why using e-cigarettes can lead to a feeling of thirst.
The solution is actually quite simple. PG and VG in e-cigarettes serve as solvents to dissolve a small amount of nicotine and flavoring, and they are almost harmless to the body. Therefore, we don't need to worry too much. Additionally, if you feel thirsty, just drink a glass of water; even if the water in your body hasn't been lost, it has just been temporarily locked by VG.
