Which is more popular: tobacco-flavored or fruit-flavored e-liquid? The Center for Substance Use Research (CSUR) released a study based on data from 20,000 American vapor preferences in 2016.
We can see from the published research data table that the population is divided into four categories: smokers, dual users of cigarettes and vape, vapor smokers, and non-smoker vapers.
From the classification of the research audience, this is a fairly reasonable report, and the final result shows that most smokers prefer sweet flavors like fruit, desserts, and candies in their e-liquids. But why?
To investigate this matter, we conducted a small survey among nearby vapers to see why they do not prefer tobacco-flavored e-liquids:
Smoker Vapers:
1: Smoker vapers often use vape primarily to quit smoking, and they naturally told me: "Since I want to quit smoking, why would I want to vape something that tastes like cigarettes?"
2: Many smokers switch to vaping because their family and colleagues dislike the smell of smoke! Vaping tobacco-flavored e-liquid is simply redundant!
3: Non-smoking friends often think that the smell of tobacco is unpleasant, and actually, after a period of switching to vaping, smokers feel the same! After finally getting rid of the taste of smoke, who wants the 'stinky' flavor?
4: There are so many flavors of e-liquid available, why stick to tobacco flavor?
5: Many vapers subconsciously believe that tobacco-flavored e-liquids seem less healthy, just like smoking cigarettes.
Non-Smoker Vapers:
This group answered very straightforwardly with 'not interested in smoking'; they inherently dislike the taste of tobacco, and tobacco-flavored e-liquids are like a non-existent option for them!
Of course, our small survey may not be as comprehensive as CSUR's, but it can give everyone an idea of the thoughts of most vapers who dislike tobacco-flavored e-liquids.
From CSUR's survey data, the ratio of smoker vapers to non-smoker vapers is roughly 2:1, indicating that the proportion of non-smokers is still quite significant! Therefore, sweet-flavored e-liquids are a very important part of vaping! The emergence of a wide variety of sweet e-liquids in the market is undoubtedly a trend!
However, the 'old friend' of vaping, the FDA, has spoken up!
The FDA believes that attractive sweet flavors are the main culprit in enticing teenagers to use e-cigarettes, intending to ban sweet e-liquids! I say, even if there is a very reasonable reason, shouldn't we find multiple ways to solve the problem? If we do this, where will the more than 80% of vapers who prefer sweet flavors go?
Since sweet e-liquids are people's preference, let's make them more standardized and better!
