VOOPOO Alpha One Review

 　　VOOPOO needs no introduction; its products are well-loved, though few in number, they are all high-quality and have taken the entire community by storm, known by all. Especially the DRAG (instant inhale) device, which is impeccable in craftsmanship, performance, and cost-effectiveness. After the DRAG (instant inhale) dual-battery device, VOOPOO released another dual-battery device named α (Alpha): α-I (Alpha-one), which is also VOOPOO's first high-end model, marking the beginning of VOOPOO's entry into the high-end market.

  　　The Alpha maintains a moderate size of 89.5*54*25MM, and its three buttons are not of conventional size or shape, but rather feature a more pronounced angular style with large hidden buttons.

  　　The stepped top still features a slightly protruding stainless steel 510 connector, which, while leaving a slight gap, prevents the atomizer from directly rubbing against the device body. The 25MM width of the device body, without beveled edges, allows it to fit 25MM or 24MM atomizers without leaking gaps.

  　　The battery compartment cover is made of a different material than the device body; the body is zinc alloy die-cast, while the battery compartment cover is aluminum alloy with a sandblasted multi-color anodizing process. The vertical striped design provides a tactile feel, and the aluminum alloy battery compartment cover allows for better heat dissipation. One side features the α-1 nameplate, while the other side is laser-etched with "VAPE IT YOUR WAY".

  　　The cross venting heat dissipation holes increase airflow compared to traditional round holes, and the appearance is more coordinated.

  　　The side sliding opening mechanism combined with the gridded design gives you more to do with your hands. The inside of the battery compartment cover is lined with an insulating film to prevent contact between the battery and the cover, and the electrodes are still gold-plated.

  　　The GENE chip's performance in the DRAG is outstanding, and the Alpha One continues to use this chip as the core of the device, with no operational differences. Features such as new/old atomizer selection prompts, voltage (V) mode, and automatic output matching based on the resistance of the connected atomizer are all inherited.

  　　The Alpha's chip is the familiar GENE FAN high-end custom motherboard, which has proven its power in the DRAG. The GENE FAN in the Alpha has increased the maximum power from 157W to 222W and added a LOVE mode to replace the SUPER mode, retaining the original operational methods, DIY curves, mechanical adjustment modes, and other functions. It does not have a color screen or touch controls; it remains a practical device, aligning with the overall design theme of the Alpha, which is high-end, atmospheric, understated, and luxurious.

  　　In power mode, the GENE chip maintains its rapid explosive characteristics, supporting a minimum resistance of 0.05 ohms, and the maximum output of 222W allows users a broader range of use while conserving power. Additionally, the device's temperature control mode, custom computer software platform, flavor curve adjustments, and other rich features can all be satisfied with the Alpha One.

  　　When the LOVE mode is ON, if you adjust the power in power mode between 160W and 222W, it will automatically switch to LOVE mode. It is called LOVE mode because it is indeed a caring mode; typically, high power combined with low resistance results in a very intense ignition effect. When you fire and take a deep inhale, you will be overwhelmed by the intense vapor. When you enter LOVE mode, it does not present such high power directly like conventional chips; instead, it first reduces the frequency and then gradually increases it back to your set power, avoiding discomfort caused by the impact of high power. Of course, if you prefer that impact, you can choose to turn off this mode and let it directly present the effects of the set power.

  　　The operation mode is simple, switching modes is convenient, and it has a lock feature, designed for enthusiasts.   　　When I first held the Alpha created by VOOPOO, my first impression was its strong texture. The modern minimalist design gives the impression not of a seductive beauty but of a sophisticated OL beauty in a small suit and short skirt with black stockings. The strong texture is refreshing; it feels like a Lexus compared to the previous DRAG, which felt like a car on Beijing Road. Its angular, square shape, with unpolished corners, gives a prickly feel when held, yet has a unique sensation like touching a cactus. Some people love it, some dislike it; this refreshing design allows the Alpha to harmonize with anything it is placed next to, no matter where it is.
