A Closer Look at the Industry Giant IQOS

Recently, the electronic cigarette giant IQOS has gained popularity again, boosting the entire electronic cigarette sales market. Today, we will take IQOS as an example to briefly introduce its structural principles, operation, flavor, personal usage experience, and precautions.

① Heating Principle and Structure: First, IQOS uses a baking heating principle instead of open flame combustion of tobacco. It heats the specially designed tobacco sticks to a certain temperature (350°C) using a ceramic heating element to produce vapor. The main structure consists of two parts: the charging case and the heating stick. The charging case primarily provides power for the heating stick and includes a reset button (factory settings), while the heating stick is the main structure for heating IQOS-specific tobacco sticks.

② Appearance and Portability: Upon seeing the actual product, one might feel it looks particularly high-end, with a stylish and compact appearance. Its size is roughly equivalent to that of a pack of cigarettes, making it very convenient for both carrying and daily use.

③ Battery Life: As an electronic cigarette, it relies on a battery for power. This is a concern for many users. The battery life of IQOS is quite impressive. Currently, I am using the latest version, IQOS 4.0, which has a significantly increased capacity compared to the previous generation. A full charge can last for over a day, allowing for the use of 25 to 30 tobacco sticks.

④ Flavor Experience: The flavor of IQOS is very close to that of real cigarettes, and the throat hit effectively satisfies cravings. As we all know, flavor is key to whether one can quit smoking, so IQOS meets the flavor needs of many smokers. Personally, I feel that the flavor is almost indistinguishable from that of real cigarettes, and once you fully switch to IQOS, traditional cigarettes become hard to enjoy. This is the genuine feedback from many users who have tried IQOS.

⑤ Tobacco Stick Flavors: The IQOS-specific tobacco sticks offer a variety of options, mainly from brands like Marlboro, HEETS, FIIT, and others. The flavors include traditional original mint, as well as new flavors like lemon yogurt, cantaloupe, and ginkgo burst, with the original mint also available in strong and mild variations to cater to different taste preferences.

⑥ Usage Operation: The operation of IQOS is very simple and user-friendly. First, take the charging case to charge the heating stick. Press the metal button on the top of the case, take out the heating stick, and insert the specific tobacco stick into the heating stick without twisting it. Long press the power button for 3 seconds until it vibrates (the white light will flash), indicating it is preheating. Once the indicator light stops flashing, you can start using IQOS to smoke. Each tobacco stick can be puffed about 14-16 times, and after a certain time or number of puffs, it will vibrate to indicate that you can take the last three puffs before the white light goes out.

After finishing a tobacco stick, the heating stick needs to be charged again, which takes about 4 minutes. Some users may find it cumbersome to charge the heating stick after each use, but I personally think this is a very health-conscious design that helps control the frequency of smoking.

One point to note is that many new users encounter the issue of not directly pulling out the tobacco stick after finishing it. The correct operation is to first push open the upper part of the heating stick and then pull out the tobacco stick; otherwise, the tobacco residue may remain in the heating chamber. ⑦ Health and Risks: This is the most concerning issue for everyone. There are often questions about whether IQOS poses significant health risks. Does IQOS merely change the form of smoking? How does it compare to traditional cigarettes in terms of harm? First of all, IQOS-specific tobacco sticks also contain tobacco components and are a specially designed non-combustible tobacco. Traditional cigarettes produce various harmful substances, including tar and carbon monoxide, when burned, while IQOS replaces the combustion process with a heating and baking process, significantly reducing the production of tar and carbon monoxide.

IQOS mainly contains low levels of nicotine and low levels of non-carcinogenic tar. Nicotine only leads to cancer when it is in extremely high purity directly affecting the human body; however, the nicotine content in tobacco does not reach this standard. The phenolic compounds in tobacco tar are not inherently carcinogenic. Therefore, IQOS is healthier compared to regular cigarettes.
