The Development of E-Cigarettes in China
According to reports from China and foreign tobacco, e-cigarettes were developed as early as 2003 and had a brief period of popularity a few years ago. However, due to the immaturity of the market and industry, many e-cigarette companies began to shift their focus overseas. With the market maturing in recent years, e-cigarettes have gradually gained attention again after several years of stagnation. The major exhibitions launched by the e-cigarette industry this year, especially the e-cigarette exhibition in Beijing in July, indicate the rapid rise of the domestic e-cigarette market. So, how should industry insiders view the development of e-cigarettes in China?
1. Direction Issues
In previous years, there were many advertisements on television promoting quitting smoking, detoxifying, and lung cleansing. These ads blindly promoted e-cigarettes under the guise of smoking cessation, exaggerating their miraculous effects in the minds of consumers, leading many to mistakenly believe that e-cigarettes are medical products designed for smokers who want to quit. In reality, e-cigarettes are merely alternative smoking products that help reduce the frequency of smoking and correct smoking habits. It can be understood that taking one more puff of an e-cigarette means taking one less puff of a traditional cigarette.
2. Policy Issues
Why did e-cigarettes shift to overseas markets after a period of popularity? E-cigarettes were invented by the Chinese. It wasn't until they gained popularity abroad in recent years that many foreign trade companies began to develop the domestic market. Some foreign companies are also planning to enter the domestic market, which is closely related to the country's smoking bans.
3. Timing Issues
The increasing intensity of smoking bans, heightened health awareness, and trends all align with the economic development of the times. Why are e-cigarettes still only accepted by a minority in China, and why are there so few physical stores, with most sales occurring online? These are merely timing issues; currently, it is just a warm-up phase for major companies. How to develop the domestic market steadily and healthily has become a common challenge for e-cigarette businesses.
4. Sustainable Development
How to achieve sustainable development? There are many e-cigarette products on the market with varying prices, and consumers are skeptical about brands and imported e-liquids. Why? This is a question that sales personnel must consider. Is it because the products are poor, or is there another reason? Why do similar products sell well abroad while there is such a large gap domestically? The issue of sustainable development is no longer just a problem for this industry; it is also a social issue.
