SMOK NORD Pod Vape Review: The NORD is the latest portable pod system from SMOK, and its biggest difference from its predecessor, the NOVO, is the introduction of a physical button for manual firing, adding a fun element of control to this pod system.
In terms of appearance, it continues the SMOK family design language of "snake skin mesh," palm-sized, with a smooth overall feel, retaining an oil reservoir observation window and a more lip-friendly curved mouthpiece. The main body and upper edges are made of high-gloss stainless steel, with gold-plated contacts inside the battery rod, and a rubber pad design at the bottom. The thickness of the body is solid, so there’s no need to worry about deformation from squeezing, and the charging port is placed at the bottom, greatly enhancing the overall feel of the device.
The reusable 3ml oil reservoir supports multiple specifications of atomizer core replacements.
While maintaining the same height, the thickness has been increased to house an internal 1100mAh battery capacity, which is unmatched in similar products.
The small-sized mini drawer-style packaging box features the product's main image centered on the front, with product features listed vertically on the right side. In terms of operation, the NORD uses a physical button for firing, with five clicks to turn on/off and a single click to fire. It supports double-clicking for battery level display, with an LED battery indicator above the button showing green for over 70%, orange for 50%, and red for below 30%, corresponding to three levels of remaining battery. The pod also retains a shuttle-shaped oil reservoir observation window for monitoring remaining oil levels at all times.
The NORD features a mainstream flat duckbill mouthpiece design, which has been modified from the straight lines of the previous NOVO mouthpiece to a curve that better fits the lips, making it more user-friendly in terms of comfort during inhalation.
In actual size comparison, the left N1 is the thinnest product I have used, while the NORD has an advantage in height, with increased width and thickness. However, in terms of battery specifications, the NORD boasts a full 700mAh more capacity than the N1, reaching 1100mAh. For a portable pod product, this large capacity battery significantly enhances the endurance experience.
The NORD is equipped with a reusable atomizer reservoir, with its large 3ml oil capacity being rare among similar products. The 3ml capacity corresponds with the 1100mAh battery, making it comparable to commonly used RTA oil reservoir atomizers.
From the top view, the internal structure of the top mouthpiece adopts an inverted triangular funnel shape, which maximizes the acceleration of condensation return, thus avoiding condensation at the inlet.
The atomizer reservoir with the installed core and the device's electrode part features a magnetic suction interface with three contact points, surrounded by black rubber material to prevent condensation corrosion.
The replaceable independent atomizer core includes two different specifications: a 0.6Ω steel mesh core and a 1.4Ω standard core. The 0.6Ω is a steel mesh core that heats up quickly and produces better vapor, while the 1.4Ω is a standard vertical core that provides a better throat hit with nicotine salts. Additionally, it supports the use of ceramic cores, which need to be purchased separately. If it could support DIY vertical cores, I believe the playability of this pod would be even better.
The connection between the atomizer core and the reservoir is sealed with rubber rings, and once tightly connected, it forms a complete atomizer structure. The oil is drawn through the atomizer core's oil holes for vaporization heating, which means the atomizer reservoir supports reuse; you only need to replace the atomizer core later.
The oil filling hole on one side of the atomizer reservoir is sealed with a rubber pad. Remember to install the atomizer core before filling with oil. As shown in the picture, the oil filling hole has a large diameter, fully supporting direct filling from a ready-to-use oil bottle.
The draw resistance feels standard, not tight, accommodating both mouth-to-lung and direct lung vaping experiences. The button firing is a recent trend in pod devices; while the operational experience may not be as free and casual as automatic draw devices, the button firing provides a noticeable increase in firing intensity, which is a pleasant surprise.
The endurance experience is particularly evident; using the 1.4Ω core, the 1100mAh battery can extend the charging frequency to over 1.5-2 days, allowing for a full day out without the need for a charging cable. The kit only provides one atomizer reservoir, and cleaning is necessary when using different flavored oils.
