Attorneys General from 29 U.S. States Call for Stronger Vaping Regulation
Sina Finance News, early morning Beijing time on August 9: Attorneys general from 29 U.S. states sent a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday, urging the agency to strengthen its proposed e-cigarette regulations in order to better protect young people from nicotine addiction.
According to a press release issued by New York Attorney General Schneiderman, the attorneys general asked the FDA in the letter to ban manufacturers from adding flavors other than tobacco and menthol to e-cigarettes, and to impose strict restrictions on e-cigarette advertising and marketing similar to those applied to traditional cigarettes.
In April this year, the FDA proposed draft rules that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under 18, but the proposal did not restrict the production of flavored products, online sales, or advertising. This marked the agency’s first step toward regulating the rapidly growing e-cigarette industry. (Yu Jian)
