The appearance design as a selling point dominated most of 2017, and although the performance of various chips has matured and become reliable, it is still constrained by chip bottlenecks. The development of chip functions has not introduced any "new things" that attract attention for a long time. Brands need to survive and cannot sit idly by; thus, the design of various brands' devices has begun to focus on unique appearances, marking a very iconic phase in the industry...
Teslacigs' most representative product, the Gas Can, is well-known, and the Invader 3 was once the most cost-effective semi-mechanical box. Today, we share a device from TESLACIGS, the latest industrial steam punk style electronic cigarette mod—PUNK 220W. Compared to the previous NANO 120W, it has jumped to a maximum output of 220W, also designed for dual 18650 batteries. Today, let's see if the Punk 220W can continue its glory! The packaging is simple; besides the PUNK 220W mod, it only includes a USB charging cable, a manual, and a warranty card. From the first glance at the mod, you can feel that TESLACIGS has maintained its industrial style while incorporating popular market elements—a semi-transparent body with exposed components.
【Unboxing】
Inside the box, there is 1 mod, 1 battery usage warning label, 1 warranty card,
1 Android data cable, and a manual in 8 languages (with a super detailed Chinese explanation).
For those who are not used to reading manuals, you can check out the community posts, which will give a general introduction.
Through the two transparent high-polished acrylic panels, you can observe different internal decorative elements on both sides, still maintaining the industrial design image with gears. The PUNK 220W is available in three colors, and the zinc alloy body combined with internal metal decorative parts gives the mod a noticeable heft despite its compact size.
The brushed surface and retro copper-colored paint feel smooth. Among the buttons on the mod, there is an independent button next to the [ + / - ] buttons, which is for adjusting the LED light mode. You can choose from five different light combinations or turn off the LED lights. Evaluating the PUNK 220W from various components, the workmanship quality is flawless.
The high-transparency acrylic panel is designed to allow the LED lights inside the mod to shine through. This design has many precedents in previous products. Combined with internal gears, steam pipes, and other metal industrial elements, the red and blue lights can render a perfect metallic texture; using dense small lights would instead be superfluous.
【Mod Parameters and Appearance】
Dimensions: 56*30*86mm
Material: Zinc Alloy + ABS + PC
Weight: 280G
Output Mode: Power (Adjustable) / Full Wire Temperature Control / TCR Mode
Output Power: 7-220W
USB Charging: 5V/1.5A
Flavor Modes: NORM (Regular) / SOFT (Gentle) / HARD (Strong) / USER (User Defined)
Memory Modes: Three levels M1-M3
Resistance Range: Power 0.1-3.0Ω, Temperature Control / TCR 0.05-1.0Ω
Temperature Range: 100-300℃ / 200-600℉
From the mod parameters, as a dual 18650 mod, it is still quite compact, but it is slightly thicker.
Regarding USB charging, there should be some breakthroughs; mainstream models are generally around 1A, but why hasn’t it reached the 2A fast charging standard of mobile phones?
The flavor mode has four adjustable levels, suitable for different atomizers and data. The USER mode is essentially a curve mode that allows users to set their own flavor preferences.
As for the appearance, as shown, the four-dimensional metal brushed process, heavy metal style color tone, dual acrylic transparent panels, internal circuits, electronic components, gears, and other elements are integrated.
【Battery Compartment】
The battery compartment is located at the bottom of the mod, with a strong magnet at the front of the cover.
To open the compartment, press and pull; to close, press and pull back, then push forward.
Inside the battery compartment and on the battery cover, there are clear indicators for battery installation direction.
The unique opening and closing method of the battery compartment is stable and secure; it sounds complicated, but it is actually very simple to operate.
【Power On】
After closing the battery compartment, turn it on directly, and the main screen displays the 'Teslacigs' LOGO, then enters the main display interface.
The self-developed chip by Tesla has a relatively complex display design, but basically, all the functions that the mod can operate are displayed on this interface.
Press the left fire button three times to enter the menu switching interface. With the right side's up + down - buttons, a cursor will blink on the display interface. Press the fire button to select the function.
The operation for adjusting functions is very user-friendly and straightforward, making it easy to get started compared to the manual.
【Function Operation】
1. Pressing the fire button 5 times does not turn off the device but locks the operation. Pressing it five more times unlocks it, which does not match the manual's instruction of turning off the device with 5 presses.
2. To lock power/temperature control, press the fire button and the down button simultaneously; press + - to unlock.
3. When adjusting power, a single press of + - adjusts in 0.5W increments, and a long press enters fast adjustment mode at 1W increments.
4. New atomizer resistance detection switch prompt.
5. Resistance lock.
6. RGB LED light with 5 levels of brightness adjustment; the round button above the + button can change the light to blue, red, white, or turn it off.
The lights are really flashy, especially in dark places or at night; the image above is just one of the five modes—try the others yourself! Haha.
7. Fault prompts, such as 10 seconds timeout for firing, low voltage, etc.
There is a very interesting feature here, the power adaptive function:
When working at high power, if the chip voltage is too low and cannot support the current output power, the battery icon on the screen will flash continuously.
The system will automatically adjust the output voltage to ensure the chip operates normally.
【Conclusion】
To be honest, I received this mod early this morning, took some pictures, and used it for about 8 hours.
This means that my experience with this mod's various functions is not comprehensive; I can only briefly share my impressions of using this mod.
1. Appearance: It completely deviates from the mainstream mod design elements in the electronic cigarette market; the punk design style really attracted me.
2. Workmanship: Exquisite, with a zinc alloy frame, metal brushed process, and heavy metal color, it is flawless.
3. Weight: This is the most regrettable aspect for me; although it uses a combination of zinc alloy + ABS + PC, it still feels slightly heavy.
4. However, the hand feel is indeed quite good; even small-handed girls can grip it with one hand, and the slightly heavier weight gives a more quality feel to the mod.
5. Button feel: The fire button has a short travel distance and clear feedback, while the - + buttons feel somewhat like mechanical keyboard keys, with a crisp sound.
6. The fire response speed is quite impressive; you can hardly feel any delay; it fires immediately upon touch.
7. The RGB LED light with 5 levels of flashing is a great tool for nightclubs and KTVs, very cool.
8. Chip functions are comprehensive and easy to operate; the only downside is that it currently cannot be upgraded.
In summary, I am very satisfied with the Teslacigs-Punk 220W mod.
With its non-mainstream design style, exquisite craftsmanship, comprehensive functions, simple operation, and cool RGB LED lights, what reason do you have not to choose it?
