Why Do People Still Get Addicted to E-cigarettes?

"Smoking is harmful to health." Although this slogan is printed on cigarette packaging, it seems to have little effect on those addicted to smoking. It is well-known that the dangers of smoking are enormous:
1. Smoking reduces lifespan
2. Smoking affects sleep quality
3. Smoking affects reproductive function
4. Smoking leads to lung diseases
5. Smoking induces cardiovascular diseases
6. Secondhand smoke poses great harm to those around
7. ...
Whether direct or indirect, smoking poses significant harm to the human body. However, these dangers do not deter many smokers, as their reasons for refusal are often rooted in social interactions, the need for stimulation, and so on. Medical research has provided insights into why people become addicted to cigarettes and repeatedly fail to quit—nicotine. I believe that the reasons for addiction to cigarettes, aside from physiological factors (nicotine and other harmful chemicals), also include psychological factors.
When thinking of people puffing smoke, what else can you associate with their sucking action? I am reminded of infants sucking on their mother's breast.
Psychological master Sigmund Freud once divided the development of human libido (psychosexual desire) into several stages, with the first stage being the oral stage. Although his theory has been criticized by many psychologists, the developmental theory still holds practical significance.
Infants, who have no concept of existing people and objects, seek pleasure through sucking or lip contact (such as biting things).
This theory may sound incredible, but upon careful reflection of infant behavior, you will find it to be true. When a small child cries, the mother offers her breast or a rubber pacifier, and the child quiets down; toddlers may pick up nearby objects to suck or bite.
Although the development of libido (psychosexual desire) has distinct stages (as one grows up, the main ways to satisfy libido may change), this does not mean that the way of obtaining pleasure through the lips disappears. The method of obtaining pleasure through the lips continues to develop as a person becomes more socialized. Smoking and drinking are developments of this method of obtaining pleasure through the lips.
(There is also a sensitive topic, oral sex, which involves obtaining pleasure through the lips but also relates to sex, making its formation more complex. This will not be elaborated on in this article.)
When adults smoke or drink, the contact between cigarettes or fine wine and our lips, along with the sucking action, to some extent, replicates the infant's behavior of sucking on the breast, allowing us to derive pleasure from it.
To eliminate nicotine addiction and ensure health, e-cigarettes were invented. The original intention of their design was to help people avoid the harmful chemicals in cigarettes. However, many people still become addicted to e-cigarettes.
This is perplexing, but if viewed from the perspective of satisfying the pleasure of the oral stage, it is not surprising.
Because at this moment, those who smoke e-cigarettes are not just inhaling nicotine; they are also experiencing the primal pleasure of sucking.
