Shenzhen E-Cigarette Industry Association Established
Yangcheng Evening News reporter Jiang Jiayuan, with photography coverage: Shenzhen has more than 2,000 e-cigarette manufacturers, including over 30 with output values exceeding RMB 100 million. More than 90% of the world’s e-cigarettes are produced in Shenzhen. In order to regulate the development of the industry, the Shenzhen E-Cigarette Industry Association was recently established, with more than 200 representatives from e-cigarette companies attending the event. It is reported that after its establishment, the association will focus on promoting the formulation of e-cigarette industry standards, regulating industry development, and guiding enterprises toward healthy competition.
At the launch ceremony that day, Bai Hongchun, director of the Registration Office of the Shenzhen Civil Organization Administration, officially presented the plaque to Li Jianwei, president of the Shenzhen E-Cigarette Industry Association and general manager of Smoore Technology, as well as Yao Jide, chairman of the association.
It is understood that as public awareness of the health hazards of cigarettes continues to grow and anti-smoking campaigns expand worldwide, the e-cigarette market—as an alternative to cigarettes—has seen explosive growth in recent years. As a major global production hub for e-cigarettes, Shenzhen has experienced particularly rapid development in this sector. At the same time, however, low barriers to entry and the lack of unified industry standards and patents have led many companies in Shenzhen to shift into the e-cigarette business in recent years. In order to compete for customers, many companies have continuously cut prices, creating numerous problems for the development of the e-cigarette industry.
“The Shenzhen E-Cigarette Industry Association will adopt a practical and truth-seeking working attitude, serve every member company diligently, and strive to enhance the industry’s R&D capabilities, innovation capabilities, and competitiveness, so as to promote the healthy and orderly development of the sector,” said Li Jianwei, president of the Shenzhen E-Cigarette Industry Association, at the founding conference. He added that the association will improve the global competitiveness of Shenzhen’s e-cigarette industry and regulate its development by promoting the establishment of industry standards and safety standards.
Sun Chenguang, deputy secretary-general of the association and general manager of G—Taste, said that the establishment of the e-cigarette association is a milestone for the industry. It will promote the healthy development of the sector and guide companies to provide users with higher-quality e-cigarette products and services.
