In Ontario, Canada, the new e-cigarette regulations that were supposed to take effect on July 1 have been abruptly halted by the Ford government.
The new Ontario government announced on July 4 that it has postponed the implementation of the 2017 Ontario Smoke-Free Act. The purpose of the delay is to allow the government to assess the regulation of e-cigarettes in the province.
Since Doug Ford officially took office as Premier of Ontario on June 29, he has been working to cancel a series of projects, including the new e-cigarette regulations.
The government explained that it wants to discuss with the public, experts, and companies to ensure that everyone's interests are maximized while also protecting the safety and health of the province's residents.
Currently, the Ontario Smoke-Free Act and the E-Cigarette Act (2015) remain in effect during this period.
