In the United States, there is a state called New Jersey, which has proposed a bill known as Assembly Bill 1586, related to e-cigarettes. This bill includes "the implementation of a wholesale sales and use tax on tobacco products in New Jersey for e-cigarettes."
Furthermore, this tax is not small; according to Mondaq News Alerts, it will impose a 75% tax on "e-cigarettes and similar tobacco alternative smoking devices!"
Why is such a high tax being imposed? According to reported information, the purpose is to "impose a tax burden on smoking alternatives similar to that imposed on cigarettes under the cigarette tax law."The other purpose of the "tobacco products" tax and licensing system is noteworthy. Assembly Bill 1586 will change the definition of "tobacco products" to include "e-cigarettes" and the substances used with them.
Currently, the bill has been submitted to the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee and is still under review. Once approved, the tax bill will be implemented!
