Are mechanical e-cigarettes better than regulated e-cigarettes? I have used both mechanical and regulated e-cigarettes, and I feel that regulated ones are easier to use. However, regulated devices generally come with protections that do not support certain low resistances, while mechanical ones seem to only excel in appearance and producing large clouds.
Are mechanical e-cigarettes better than regulated e-cigarettes?
I started with mechanical e-cigarettes and used a DIY atomizer. The Kayfun 3.1 is probably the simplest model. After trying this, I really can't accept the taste of pre-made atomizers. As long as the resistance is set correctly, it feels really comfortable.

1. Why is it called a mechanical e-cigarette? What is the difference from the one I bought besides DIY?

A mechanical e-cigarette has no voltage regulation; it is the most primitive form of pure resistance heating, similar to a flashlight with just a bulb, a switch, and a battery, with one or more heating wires.

2. Where is the firing switch on a mechanical e-cigarette? My junk has a button.

It is usually at the bottom, except for some models, and it has a safety feature to prevent accidental firing.

3. Are the mechanical e-cigarette battery tubes and atomizers (various brands) interchangeable?

Most battery tubes and atomizers now use a 510 thread, so they are generally compatible. If unsure, consult when purchasing.

4. If I don't like DIY, is there still a point to using a mechanical e-cigarette?

Not doing DIY takes away a lot of the fun, but mechanical e-cigarette battery tubes are almost fault-free. You can buy pre-made atomizers and ensure they work properly by cleaning and replacing the atomizer core.

5. Does a mechanical e-cigarette have no circuit board? Isn't that worse than having an electronic cigarette??

Without a circuit board, the tube itself acts as a conductor, connecting the heating wire to the battery. Whether it's good or not depends on personal use. If you don't want to DIY, you can buy a complete set of pre-made devices. Regulated devices can produce different amounts of vapor with the same heating wire, but mechanical ones only allow adjustments on the heating wire itself. Mechanical devices offer more freedom, and DIY is a fun experience. If you're not interested, don't get into it; it can be a money pit and a waste of time...

Note: Nowadays, mechanical devices have no cost-effectiveness aside from appearance; regulated devices easily reach 20-30W or even higher.
