What Should You Do When Vaper’s Tongue Makes Flavors Hard to Taste?

Hello everyone, I am Xiao Wu from the Vapor Club. This time, I want to talk about a new term that might confuse newcomers to vaping: "vaper's tongue" (also known as flavor fatigue).
This term was initially proposed in the West, referring to the issue where vapers become less sensitive to the flavors in e-liquids over time. In China, players often refer to this phenomenon as flavor fatigue.
The specific issues typically manifest as follows: "Why does this e-liquid taste less and less flavorful?" "This e-liquid was fine before, but suddenly it tastes bad! Why?".
This problem is usually common among novice vapers, as they tend to use the same e-liquid for extended periods once they find a flavor they like.
However, this awkward phenomenon can also occur among experienced vapers, who typically try various flavors throughout the day, continuously refreshing their tolerance threshold for flavors to avoid flavor fatigue.
When taste buds and olfactory cells are exposed to the same flavoring for too long, they can develop resistance (also known as an increased tolerance threshold) to that specific flavoring. Consequently, the human body has different tolerance thresholds for different flavorings.
For example, if my e-liquid contains strawberry and kiwi flavorings, and I develop resistance to the strawberry flavoring first, I will find the strawberry flavor in that e-liquid increasingly faint, making the taste strange.
Another scenario involves complete newcomers to vaping, who are initially very sensitive to flavors and find e-liquids enjoyable and flavorful. However, after some time, they may experience a lack of flavor in all e-liquids.
This is also a tolerance threshold issue, but it is not due to fatigue from a single or few flavorings; rather, it is a fatigue from all flavorings (since they have not previously been exposed to a large number of flavorings for an extended period), leading to the aforementioned situation where they find almost all e-liquids lacking in aroma.
So how can we improve this situation?
There are several methods.
The first method is to provide direct stimulation to the taste buds (e.g., using extreme cold e-liquids, chewing toothpaste, etc.) to awaken the taste buds and olfactory cells, regaining sensitivity to flavorings. However, this method has its downsides; the reawakened sensitivity does not last long, typically diminishing within a few hours.
The second method involves allowing time for recovery (as the saying goes, time heals all). You can choose to refrain from vaping for a period to allow your taste sensitivity to recover, or you can continue vaping, but the recovery time will be longer.
The third solution differs from the first two; it focuses on preventing flavor fatigue from occurring by avoiding prolonged use of the same type of e-liquid, thereby continuously changing the threshold of taste perception cells, effectively preventing flavor fatigue.
