Recent news from China’s e-cigarette information: A recent survey in the UK revealed a significant increase in e-cigarette usage, with the number of users tripling in two years, indicating that more people are taking action to quit smoking. Experts remind relevant authorities to strengthen safety regulations on e-cigarettes.
The survey involved over 12,000 adults in the UK. The results showed that approximately 2.1 million people in the UK currently use e-cigarettes, far exceeding the 700,000 in 2012.
The survey also found that among those who use e-cigarettes, 71% of those who have quit traditional cigarettes said they did so to help completely quit smoking; 48% of those still smoking traditional cigarettes said they tried e-cigarettes to quit. Among e-cigarette users, only about 1% had never smoked traditional cigarettes.
Deborah Arnott, CEO of the Action on Smoking and Health organization, stated that most people try e-cigarettes to quit traditional cigarettes, so the significant increase in e-cigarette users means more people are joining the quitting ranks. However, some experts also indicate that this result underscores the necessity of strengthening regulations regarding the safety of e-cigarettes.
Although e-cigarette manufacturers promote them as safe alternatives to traditional cigarettes, an increasing number of studies suggest that the safety of e-cigarettes is also a concern. For example, manufacturers often do not disclose the nicotine solution composition of e-cigarettes, making it difficult to assess the health risks consumers face. Governments in the UK, the US, and France have been strengthening or planning to strengthen regulations on e-cigarettes in recent years.
