Have you noticed that traveling has become increasingly popular in recent years? Many people consider travel as their primary form of entertainment and leisure. Thailand is one of those destinations. Traveling to this country is relatively cheaper than going to Europe or America, which is one reason many people are willing to go. The continuous arrests and hefty fines for those using IQOS e-cigarettes in Thailand have become a hot topic on social media. British and Israeli users of IQOS e-cigarettes are often caught in Thailand. Is it illegal to bring e-cigarettes to Thailand?

However, it is important to note that before going to a country, in addition to preparing currency, luggage, and passport, one should also understand their customs to avoid unnecessary trouble. Before going to Thailand, tour guides usually repeatedly remind travelers about one item they cannot bring; otherwise, they will face fines upon arrival. Do you know what that item is?

That item is e-cigarettes. Those who are informed know that smoking is not allowed in Thailand, so many tourists choose to carry e-cigarettes for fear of not being able to resist. E-cigarettes are made from e-liquid and do not contain nicotine, so they do not affect those around them while allowing users to enjoy the sensation of smoking, making them popular among smoking enthusiasts.

However, if you go to Thailand, you absolutely cannot bring e-cigarettes. In Thailand, using e-cigarettes is illegal, and the most severe punishment could be a fine of 200,000 yuan and a ten-year prison sentence. The Thai authorities believe that the vapor from e-cigarettes disperses into the air, and the harmful substances contained within can endanger the health of others.

Previously, a foreign tourist was fined nearly 10,000 yuan for using an e-cigarette after being spotted by the police in Thailand. This is why tour guides repeatedly remind travelers not to bring this item; if discovered, they will face fines. Encountering such issues while traveling is simply not worth it. Netizens have also discussed this matter.

According to Thailand's tobacco laws, selling cigarettes to minors (under 20 years old; previously 18) can result in a maximum sentence of three months and a fine of 30,000 baht (about 6,100 yuan). Smoking in non-smoking areas (cigarettes) can lead to a maximum sentence of one year and a fine of 100,000 baht. Just possessing e-cigarettes can result in a maximum sentence of ten years and a fine of up to 500,000 baht.

In places where smoking is allowed, possessing and smoking traditional cigarettes is permitted, but the same does not apply to e-cigarettes. Even if not intended for sale, merely possessing them can lead to penalties. Currently, tourists from countries where e-cigarettes are popular, such as the UK and the US, are frequently arrested for possessing e-cigarettes.
