On October 31, Life Daily in Shandong reported that “the repeatedly banned flavored e-cigarettes have resurfaced again around some schools.”

According to a Life Daily reporter, they visited the area around a middle school near Jiefang Road at dismissal time, when large numbers of students were gathered in nearby convenience stores. Upon entering one of the shops, e-cigarettes labeled with strawberry, orange, and other fruit flavors were hanging in a very prominent position on the shop door. Many students were passing by, and some curiously picked them up to ask about the price and how to use them. “Ten yuan each. We have every flavor, just pick what you want,” the shop owner told the reporter while taking payment.

“One e-cigarette lasts about 400 puffs if you take small draws, and more than 200 even with big puffs,” the owner said. “They sell really well. This batch just arrived yesterday and it's almost sold out already. We’ll be restocking again tomorrow afternoon.”

When asked whether there were any e-cigarettes more similar to real cigarettes, the shop owner told the reporter, “Tomorrow afternoon we’ll get new ‘Zhonghua’ and ‘Furongwang’ e-cigarettes. They feel more like real cigarettes than these fruit-flavored ones.”

Later, the Life Daily reporter visited schools around Hongjialou for further investigation. Upon hearing that the reporter wanted to buy e-cigarettes, several shop owners responded very cautiously, saying either “We don’t sell them” or “They’re sold out.”

However, when the reporter casually asked nearby students, several said they had “seen them,” and a few said they had “tried them,” describing these e-cigarettes as “pretty fun.” One student also told the reporter that if you want to buy this kind of e-cigarette, you should go to the entrance of a nearby primary school, because “a lot of elementary school students use these.”

One eighth-grade student said that these e-cigarettes used to be very popular, and some girls at school would buy them just for fun. But later, schools and parents began cracking down on them, so everyone became afraid to buy them. “Recently, some classmates have started using them again, but they definitely don’t dare let their parents or teachers know.”

We want to make one thing clear: selling e-cigarettes to adult smokers may be seen as helping them, but selling e-cigarettes to primary and secondary school students is doing real harm. Don’t throw away all bottom lines for profit. It damages the reputation of the entire vaping industry.
