Japan, an island nation with a population of 128 million, has seen an increasing awareness of the health risks associated with smoking as the country's economic level continues to rise. More and more consumers are realizing the dangers of smoking, with over 21.6% of Japanese smokers using e-cigarettes to quit their dependence on traditional cigarettes, and this number continues to rise. E-cigarettes have a significant market in Japan and Europe, while in China, it is just starting to take off. The low entry barrier for e-cigarette micro-businesses presents a great opportunity for many looking to profit in the e-cigarette industry!

According to a survey report released by Japan Tobacco in May this year, the smoking rate in Japan has dropped to 17.6%. This survey has been conducted annually since 1965, showing a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from 18.2% in 2017. The male smoking rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 27.8%, while the female smoking rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 9.0%. The number of male smokers dropped from 14.26 million in 2017 to 14.06 million, and female smokers decreased from 4.91 million to 4.74 million.

According to JT, this survey has used a two-stage stratified sampling method since May 2018, distributing questionnaires to about 32,000 adult men and women. The main content includes the usage of cigarettes, T-type vapor products, pipes, cigars, and other new tobacco products. A total of 19,442 valid questionnaires were collected nationwide (60.6%).

Overall, the reasons for the declining smoking rate in Japan are complex, primarily due to smokers' increasing awareness of health risks associated with smoking, leading them to choose e-cigarettes and other new tobacco products as alternatives to traditional cigarettes. Other factors include an aging population, relevant regulations, and rising taxes. Striving for a society where smokers and non-smokers can coexist harmoniously is a goal that all countries should pursue.
