Recently, the IECIE International Electronic Cigarette Exhibition was successfully held in Shenzhen, where representatives from UL and the American Electronic Cigarette Technology Association were invited to attend and deliver keynote speeches. Notably, UL shared a detailed introduction to the new electronic cigarette standard UL 8139 and a professional interpretation of the international market access for electronic cigarette products, which received enthusiastic responses from the attendees.

The importance of this standard for establishing a unified industry standard for electronic cigarettes has garnered significant attention from industry manufacturers even before its release, as it is likely to become a necessary requirement for international market access. Many attendees raised questions regarding the details of this standard during the conference.   Currently, there is a wide variety of electronic cigarettes on the market, and with the rapid growth in demand over the past few years, especially in the European and American markets where consumption has been increasing year by year, the entire market is thriving. However, the safety risks associated with electronic cigarettes cannot be ignored. Electronic cigarette products are powered by batteries that drive atomizers to produce vapor, thus the inherent risks associated with batteries also apply to electronic cigarettes, necessitating high standards for quality control and safety of battery components.   Based on the occurrence rates of electronic cigarette usage failures reported from around the world, the likelihood of electronic cigarettes malfunctioning or exploding is not higher than that of other electronic products. However, failures in electronic cigarettes often occur during use, and since they are in close contact with the user's face and mouth during use, any issues can cause serious harm to the human body, making product safety particularly important.   UL Business Development Manager Wang Jiaping stated in his speech New UL Standard for E-Cigarettes to Be Released Soon, Advancing Industry Safety The new UL 8139 standard is developed by combining UL's industry experience as an international battery safety expert with extensive communication with industry associations and key members of the electronic cigarette industry. This standard has already attracted significant attention in the American electronic cigarette market and is likely to become a universal industry standard in the USA and internationally.   Therefore, it is recommended that domestic electronic cigarette manufacturers understand and apply for this certification as soon as possible. Obtaining this certification can not only provide an international market access advantage for products but also make UL-certified products more appealing to consumers, enhancing market recognition.   UL Business Development Manager Wang Jiaping delivered a speech   Another speaker was Tony Abboud, a director from the American Electronic Cigarette Technology Association, which is a national trade association that advocates for the electronic cigarette industry through federal and state lobbying strategies and overall public affairs strategies. The association's members include device manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, online sellers, importers, and exporters, among others.   Tony expressed strong support for the UL standard while answering questions from attendees, stating that standards are the future of an industry. The association will spare no effort to integrate and promote industry standards to drive the development of the entire industry.
