On December 21 at 2 PM, Joyetech held a certificate awarding ceremony for the "world's first UL 8139 e-cigarette certificate" in collaboration with UL at the Venus Hotel in Shajing. This not only represents Joyetech's ongoing commitment to the safety of e-cigarette devices but also marks an important milestone for the industry's future development towards product safety.
UL stands for Underwriter Laboratories Inc., the most authoritative safety testing organization in the United States and the largest private institution in the world engaged in safety testing and certification. It is an independent, profit-making professional organization that conducts tests for public safety using scientific methods to determine the hazards and levels of various materials, devices, products, equipment, and buildings.

UL primarily engages in product safety certification and business safety proofing, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that the market has products of a certain safety level, contributing to the protection of personal health and property safety. UL 8139 is a safety standard specifically designed for the e-cigarette industry, aimed at helping manufacturers reduce the risks associated with lithium batteries used in e-cigarettes and vaping devices (also known as ENDS, or electronic nicotine delivery systems) through assessment, testing, and certification. This standard mainly involves testing electrical systems, including batteries, chargers, and protective circuits.
In April of this year, UL 8139 officially became the inspection standard for e-cigarette devices in the United States and Canada. Joyetech not only passed all tests and the initial factory inspection for UL 8139 but was also awarded the world's first certificate that meets the UL 8139 standard.
The sales director of UL China stated:
"Since e-cigarettes first appeared on the market in 2003, over 40 million people worldwide are now using them, including other types of new tobacco products. This represents geometric growth, increasing from zero to 40 million users in just ten years. However, with this growth comes the challenge of ensuring safety."
"Currently, 31% of safety incidents involving e-cigarettes occur when the devices are not in use, and the incidence rate is proportional to the growth of e-cigarettes."
"Therefore, UL 8139 primarily addresses several safety hazards associated with e-cigarettes, including battery cell safety, battery management systems, product compatibility of various components, external environmental impacts, mechanical stress, atomization, and product operational safety. UL 8139 only covers the electrical safety of e-cigarette devices; consumables and their psychological impact on users are not included in its scope."
The general manager of UL's electronic technology division for the Asia-Pacific region, Yu Xiukun, stated:
"E-cigarettes are electronic products, and thus have the safety issues associated with electronic products. As concerns about the physical and property hazards they pose become more pronounced, many government departments, industry players, and consumers have raised new demands for safety and new expectations for product safety."
"In this context, over the past two years, UL has coordinated with the American Consumer Safety Commission (CSBC), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Health Canada (HC), and stakeholders in the e-cigarette industry to collaboratively develop the world's first UL safety standard for the e-cigarette industry."
"Undoubtedly, this standard will play a significant role in the healthy, stable, and orderly development of the entire e-cigarette industry."
Zhang Xuefeng, the general manager of Shenzhen Joyetech Technology Co., Ltd., also introduced at the ceremony:
"Since May 2017, Joyetech has joined the Global E-Cigarette Standards Association, actively participating in the interpretation of UL testing standards and providing suggestions for revisions."
"Through continuous communication with UL experts and on-site systematic inspections, Joyetech became the first e-cigarette company in the world to apply for UL 8139 certification. In October 2017, we invested heavily in building a high-standard UL 8139 WTDP witness laboratory and procured the most advanced testing equipment from both domestic and international sources, bringing in professional testing personnel."
"Additionally, Joyetech has fully integrated UL 8319 standards into its product research and design as well as the production process, forming regulations that meet the strict requirements of UL 8139 testing."#p#分页标题#e#
The eGo AIO model e-cigarette from Joyetech is the first to receive the world's first UL 8139 e-cigarette safety certificate, and many other products from Joyetech are currently in the final stages of UL 8139 certification.
Overall, with the rapid development of the e-cigarette industry, it is expected that the global market size will reach $61.4 billion by 2025. However, amidst this booming growth, the consideration of e-cigarette safety cannot be overlooked, and safety testing for e-cigarette products is imperative. As the first e-cigarette company to pass UL 8139, Joyetech not only gains a green light to enter the North American and global markets but also opens the curtain on the "safety development of e-cigarette products."
With this honor, Joyetech will continue to move forward. In the future, Joyetech will further increase product research and compliance management, adhering to the core commitment of "creating healthy and safe products," and continuously provide high-quality, high-performance safe e-cigarette products to global consumers, establishing a respected international brand.
