Is Beijing Really Banning Vaping? IQOS Moves Against the Trend with the New IQOS MESH

Is Beijing Really Banning Vaping? Recently, the Beijing Smoking Control Association released a citywide smoking ban report, indicating that Beijing currently has the strictest smoking management in the country. Smoking is prohibited in all public spaces with a roof. From early August 2018 to the end of September 2018, Beijing penalized 547 entities for illegal smoking, fined 2,723 individuals, and collected over 1.8 million yuan in fines. The Smoke-Free Beijing public platform also received 2,265 complaints about illegal smoking in public places, a 4.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the emergence of vaping outside of regulatory measures has also attracted attention. In recent years, e-cigarettes have gradually entered our lives and have become a smoking cessation alternative promoted by businesses. However, whether e-cigarettes should be classified as tobacco and included in the smoking ban has sparked considerable debate.

The Beijing Smoking Control Association stated that since e-cigarettes are a new phenomenon, they are not included in the enforcement scope of Beijing's smoking control regulations, creating a regulatory gap. In the future, Beijing will strengthen research on the harm management model of e-cigarettes and explore the feasibility of banning smoking in public places, providing relevant basis for e-cigarette management. Is Beijing Really Banning Vaping? Regarding the recently popular "smoking ban" in Malaysia, Deputy Minister of Health Li Wencai stated that there are currently no regulations controlling e-cigarettes, and comprehensive regulation can only occur after proposals are made in Parliament. At this stage, only e-cigarettes containing nicotine are considered illegal.

Smokers may recall the incident on July 10 involving Air China flight CA106, where the co-pilot's use of an e-cigarette raised safety concerns, and on July 31, a woman was seen vaping on subway line 10. Not long ago, another amusing incident occurred. On the 11th of this month, the FDA issued a warning to Chinese e-cigarette supplier HelloCig, accusing them of selling two e-liquids that contained the active ingredients of erectile dysfunction medications Cialis and Viagra, falsely claiming them to be officially recognized products.

Although both of these erectile dysfunction medications are legal prescription drugs, the FDA has not permitted their inclusion in e-liquids. The FDA warned that these ingredients, when combined with blood pressure or heart disease medications, could lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. The FDA issued a 15-day ultimatum for the supplier to respond, stating that failure to comply could result in seizure or even a ban. In light of the strict regulations currently in place, such blatant actions are rare in the e-cigarette industry.

Meanwhile, we must mention the recently popular "tobacco sticks" illegally imported from abroad, which can be inserted into a heating chamber for smokers to "exhale clouds." Currently, the operation and sale of this new type of cigarette is illegal...

Recently, the Nanjing Public Security Bureau's Jianye Branch, under the leadership of the Nanjing Food and Drug Environmental Investigation Team, cracked the province's first case of illegal operation of new heated non-combustible cigarettes based on a tip-off, with an involved amount exceeding ten million yuan.

According to the head of the Nanjing Jianye Public Security Bureau, this new type of cigarette is different from e-cigarettes because e-cigarettes are not classified as tobacco, and the state does not implement exclusive sales for them. Currently, domestic tobacco factories have not produced or sold this new type of cigarette. This new type of cigarette, also known as "tobacco sticks," has been identified as genuine cigarettes. These cigarettes all come from abroad, and their entry and sale clearly violate China's tobacco monopoly system, constituting illegal operation.

Regarding e-cigarette regulation, Beijing has plans, and we previously reported that Hong Kong is also preparing to take action. They announced a complete ban on the import and sale of e-cigarettes in Hong Kong. Previously, Hong Kong only restricted sales to minors.

However, despite the increasing regulation of e-cigarettes, some people are still going against the trend!

Is IQOS launching something new? When you hear this, do you feel numb? After all, it's just spy information that many people have seen, so it doesn't matter. But this time, the IQOS we are talking about is different! It is not a heated non-combustible product, but a genuine IQOS e-cigarette—IQOS MESH.

This latest IQOS e-cigarette has a starting price of only £22.95, equivalent to 208.37 yuan. Currently, the information indicates that this product will debut in the UK. Considering the price, it's quite cheap; buying a small e-cigarette for over 200 yuan is quite normal. However, when you learn more about this product, you might find it... quite underwhelming!#p#分页标题#e#

First, let's talk about the heating structure of IQOS MESH. As its name "MESH" suggests, its heating structure is a metal mesh, for which IQOS has specifically applied for a patent. I haven't received a physical product yet, so I can't comment on how it differs from traditional coil heating and ceramic heating structures. Is Beijing Really Banning Vaping? The body of IQOS MESH features some interesting designs. As a small e-cigarette, users typically either use a button to inhale or an air switch to inhale, but MESH combines both. If MESH is not used for an extended period, you need to press the switch to power it on, at which point the air switch will operate, allowing for free inhalation! If it is not used for more than 3 minutes, IQOS MESH will automatically power off. I think the main purpose of this feature is to protect the battery, preventing it from being in standby mode for too long.

Speaking of the pods for IQOS MESH, it can be said that this time IQOS can legitimately enter China (probably). After all, it is no longer a heated non-combustible product, but a proper vape product. Each pod contains 2ml of e-liquid and comes in seven flavors, with nicotine concentrations of 18mg, 11mg, and 6mg.

I find the nicotine concentration setting puzzling. IQOS MESH uses regular nicotine solution, possibly because overseas JUUL has registered too many nicotine salt patents, causing IQOS to become hesitant. However, this creates a serious problem: is this low concentration, non-smooth, and unsatisfying vape experience really good?

If that's the case, why not use mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping...? To be honest, Chinese vapers, including those who have started using small e-cigarettes to quit smoking, have become accustomed to the excellent experience of nicotine salt small e-cigarettes, all seeking satisfaction and smoothness. If IQOS MESH is going this route... frankly, it's quite underwhelming. It likely won't compete well with JUUL abroad, and domestically, there are even more competitors!

We will keep an eye on information about MESH, and if we get our hands on a product, we will definitely share the news with everyone right away!
