Li Yuanhong: Cigarettes should be treated differently as a “special product”

Two officials from the Jingzhou Tobacco Monopoly Bureau joined a live public affairs program to discuss cigarette sales and market oversight, revisiting the debate over cigarettes as a “special product.”

Introduction: It is reported that two officials from the Jingzhou Tobacco Monopoly Bureau entered the e-line people's livelihood interview studio and discussed "those matters" related to tobacco with the host. As a "special product," the sale and market management of cigarettes have always been a topic of private discussion among many people. What is the situation in the Jingzhou market?

According to news from China Electronic Cigarette, "Smoking is harmful to health" is something almost everyone understands, yet the number of smokers remains high. Many veteran smokers may know the types and brands of cigarettes like the back of their hand, but they are less clear about the management of the tobacco market. Recently, two officials from the Jingzhou Tobacco Monopoly Bureau entered the e-line people's livelihood interview studio to discuss "those matters" related to tobacco.

As a "special product," the sale and market management of cigarettes have always been a topic of private discussion. What is the situation in our Jingzhou market? During the interview, Li Yuanhong, Deputy Director of the Jingzhou Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, and Li Liming, Office Director, answered related questions.

Li Yuanhong stated that although we are in a market economy era, there are certain restrictions on cigarettes regarding sales channels, regions, brands, and quantities. Overall, the tobacco monopoly and management work in Jingzhou have been stable and orderly for many years, following the requirements of higher authorities, with annual sales around 170,000 to 180,000 cartons, but the market cannot be said to be saturated.

Li Yuanhong also mentioned that as a management department, in the process of rectifying the tobacco market and cracking down on counterfeit cigarettes, the Tobacco Monopoly Bureau often collaborates with industry and commerce, public security, and other departments for joint law enforcement. In recent years, our city has successively cracked several large cases of counterfeit cigarette sales, achieving remarkable results. However, a harmonious and stable market requires the participation of the general public to maintain. We hope that citizens can report any improper business practices or cigarette trafficking they discover in their daily lives to the management department in a timely manner.
