According to the Daily Mail in the UK, a new study has shown that two-thirds of smokers who successfully switched to vaping claim they have experienced fewer respiratory illnesses. Researchers state that there is clear evidence that vaping does not cause lung infections like traditional cigarettes do.

Queen Mary University of London conducted an online survey of 941 respondents, assessing the subjective changes in lung disease among smokers who had switched to vaping for at least 2 months.

The study report was published in the journal Addiction Research & Theory. The report showed that among the respondents, 66% reported improvement in respiratory symptoms; 29% saw no change, and 5% reported worsening symptoms.

“There is no doubt that e-cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes, but some smokers still perceive them as dangerous. This misconception includes a study on rats that falsely claimed vaping might increase susceptibility to infections. However, studies on human e-cigarette users have proven otherwise,” said Peter Hayek, a professor at Queen Mary University of London and the lead author of the report. “Because this study is based on subjective reports, it needs to be interpreted with caution and requires further research using objective measures. However, the current results provide ample data to demonstrate that vaping does not increase the risk of infection; in fact, it may reduce the risk of infection.”
