E-cigarettes were originally only active in foreign markets, but in recent years, the number of "smokers" in China has been increasing, with many domestic cigarette users switching to e-cigarettes. However, in light of this phenomenon, many people cannot help but ask, what is the difference between e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes? Which of these two tobacco products is better?

1. From the smoking method perspective.

Traditional cigarettes use the method of igniting tobacco to release nicotine, which is accepted by most people and is quite convenient; one cigarette and a lighter are enough. E-cigarettes typically involve more equipment and often cannot be used directly. For example, the fourth-generation IQOS 3.0 I recently purchased requires heating the tobacco stick before use. Although this step is not very troublesome, if a smoker has a sudden craving, they might become impatient waiting.

On another note, traditional cigarettes are disposable products; once smoked, they are gone, and the leftover butts need to be disposed of in a trash can or a designated place for cigarette butts. In contrast, e-cigarettes like the fourth-generation IQOS 3.0 use non-combustion tobacco sticks, so there is no need to worry about disposal after use. They do not rely on combustion principles, so they can be placed anywhere without safety concerns, making them more convenient for outdoor use.

2. From the smoking experience perspective.

The smoking experience of traditional cigarettes is quite satisfying; most people are addicted to the feeling of swirling smoke. However, many e-cigarettes on the market lack sufficient flavor and vapor production. The fourth-generation IQOS 3.0 I am currently using is better in this regard; the throat hit is comparable to that of traditional cigarettes, but the flavor is still somewhat lighter. Smokers who pursue flavor may find this unsatisfactory, but a lighter flavor has its advantages, as the taste is determined by the tar and nicotine content in the tobacco. A lighter flavor means lower harm. For instance, the tar content in IQOS tobacco is only 10% of that in traditional cigarettes, and it is known that a significant portion of the harm from traditional cigarettes is caused by tar. With reduced tar, the burden on the body is also lessened. Additionally, because of the lower tar content, the secondhand smoke released is also reduced, minimizing harm to family members.

Overall, traditional cigarettes focus on convenience and enjoyment during the smoking process, while e-cigarettes like IQOS prioritize health. Which one a smoker chooses depends on their personal preference.

However, from my personal perspective, the fourth-generation IQOS 3.0 I am currently using is much better than the traditional cigarettes I used to smoke, with less harm and decent flavor.
