When it comes to e-liquids, we cannot avoid discussing domestic e-liquids. Currently, the main types in China are American, Malaysian, and domestic e-liquids. We will briefly summarize their advantages and disadvantages, hoping our insights will help friends better understand the current state of e-liquids in various countries and choose the most suitable products during their vaping journey.
American E-Liquids: The American e-liquids we refer to also include some from European countries; it would be more accurate to call them Western e-liquids. From a technical perspective, Western countries have a history of over a hundred years in flavoring, and their technical expertise is undoubtedly ahead of other regions. From a market perspective, the high quality of Western e-liquids naturally leads to high market recognition. In the United States, there are many vaping enthusiasts, which forces manufacturers to enhance their technology. Malaysian E-Liquids: Southeast Asia has long been known for its abundant fruits, giving Malaysian e-liquids a natural advantage in raw materials. Malaysian e-liquids have quickly captured the market of novice users due to their low prices. My impression of Malaysian e-liquids is that they are very fragrant and sweet; however, I personally believe that such strong-flavored e-liquids do not align with the preferences of domestic users. Domestic E-Liquids: Regarding the quality of domestic versus foreign e-liquids, I believe our taste buds won't lie. Consumers need to try for themselves rather than blindly believe that foreign products are always superior. Additionally, many consumers think that domestic e-liquids are made using local flavorings. I want to clarify that food-grade flavorings, which can be added to food, are safe for the human body when used under the control of flavorists regarding the quantity. Many flavorings are synthetic or extracted. Some users are sensitive to artificial flavorings, believing that any artificially produced flavoring is unsafe. I want to explain that as long as the artificial food-grade flavorings are produced by reputable manufacturers and undergo safety testing, they are not harmful to the human body. However, many domestic businesses are overly enamored with foreign products, using these claims to deceive consumers. Domestic e-liquids are often regarded as "garbage" among domestic users, but what many do not realize is that 90% of the world's e-liquids are made in China. Domestic e-liquids are exported to most countries worldwide, including the U.S. and Europe. Although domestic e-liquids hold a significant market share, they primarily occupy the mid to low-end market. So, what is the actual situation of domestic e-liquids? From a technical perspective, the development of flavoring technology in China is relatively recent, and the number of skilled flavorists has not yet reached a critical mass. I believe that as the e-cigarette industry, along with the beverage and tobacco industries, continues to develop, more talents will enter the flavoring field, and there will eventually be a technological explosion in China's flavoring industry. From a market perspective, as mentioned earlier, domestic e-liquids have a high market share globally, but their low factory prices mean that manufacturers cannot invest heavily in research and development. Other industries in China face similar challenges, but more and more sectors are transitioning from "Made in China" to "Created in China." With the rise of the mid to high-end market for domestic e-cigarettes and foreign manufacturers targeting the mid to low-end market, domestic manufacturers are realizing that a low-price strategy is not sustainable. Some innovative e-liquid companies are gradually investing heavily in research and development, striving to carve out a place in the e-cigarette industry. I believe that in the near future, as the domestic e-cigarette market grows, we will see a number of brands with a good reputation among users emerge. Of course, gaining user recognition is a long road for Chinese manufacturers; solidly mastering the fundamentals is the key to success.
Advantages and Disadvantages of American, Malaysian, and Domestic E-Liquids:
American e-liquids can be considered the "nobility" of e-liquids, with excellent quality and a great reputation. However, their high prices and the prevalence of "counterfeit products" in the domestic market affect their standing among users.
Malaysian e-liquids can be viewed as the "gangsters" of e-liquids; although they come from humble beginnings, their inherent advantages and early entry into the Chinese market still grant them a certain status at this stage. However, they face the same issue as American e-liquids: a plethora of "counterfeit products." The lack of significant technological advancement will also impact the future of Malaysian e-liquids in the Chinese market.
I see domestic e-liquids as the "commoners"; although there are many, their status is relatively low. As someone involved in the domestic e-cigarette industry, I have been closely following the development of domestic e-liquids. Due to tariff policy advantages, domestic e-liquids naturally have a significant price advantage. From the recent products launched by some domestic manufacturers, it is evident that domestic e-liquids have made tremendous technological progress. More importantly, these products show that domestic manufacturers have become less restless and more sincere. I believe that in the near future, domestic manufacturers who better understand the tastes of the Chinese population will inevitably launch high-quality, cost-effective e-liquids that cater to local preferences.
