How Good Is the Topside Bottom-Feed Mod?
Topside is a single-battery squonk mod from Dovpo, jointly designed by TVC (The Vapor Chronicles), creator of the popular Drop RDA, and Dovpo. It is also Dovpo’s second bottom-feed mod. The device uses a dual-battery-style design and is compatible with 20
Topside is a single-battery bottom-feed mod from Dovpo, co-designed by the popular Drop RDA designer TVC (The Vapor Chronicles) and Dovpo, making it the second bottom-feed mod released by Dovpo.
The mod features a dual battery design and can accommodate 20700, 21700, or 18650 (with a conversion sleeve) batteries, sharing similar characteristics with Vandy Vape's Pulse X mod and HCigar's Aurora mod.
Product features:
Size: 92mm*54mm*27mm; Screen size: 0.96 inches; Input voltage range: 3.4-4.2V; Resistance range: 0.08-3.5 ohms; Power range: 5-90W; Output voltage range: 1-8.5V; Body material: zinc alloy, aluminum alloy, stainless steel; Modes: variable wattage, bypass, temperature control; Compatible with 21700/20700/18650 batteries; 10ml e-liquid capacity.
Topside has a practical and aesthetically pleasing design style. Although it is not the smallest or lightest mod, players can easily feel the designer's effort in its creation. Compared to the Pulse, which uses 3D printing technology, the Topside mod is slightly heavier at 190.5g. Currently, the mod is available in six colors, with the top and bottom of the mod being black and the middle part being colorful, featuring an anodized finish.
The mod features a 0.96-inch black and white screen. Although the configuration is basic, the screen's brightness and clarity are excellent and easy to read. The screen displays most basic information, including power, resistance, and battery level, while Topside can also show real-time voltage and power readings.
In addition to its beautiful design, the mod maintains a comfortable grip. The round fire button is large, providing noticeable feedback when pressed, and there is no looseness in the button assembly. The top can accommodate atomizers with a diameter of up to 26mm without any protrusion beyond the edges of the mod. Since most atomizers have a base diameter of 24mm or 25mm, the Topside is compatible with the vast majority of atomizers for general use.
In terms of performance, the Topside only has variable wattage and bypass output modes upon unboxing. Players wishing to use temperature control mode will need to update the firmware. However, at the time of writing this article, I have not received the new firmware to update the mod. The variable wattage mode is very straightforward, with a maximum output power of 90W, and there is no preheat function or adjustable power curve.
The most eye-catching feature of the Topside mod is its top-fill design — unlike all other bottom-feed mods on the market that require players to remove the e-liquid bottle from the mod to refill, the Topside allows players to fill the e-liquid bottle directly from the top of the mod — players simply need to remove the top cap to refill the e-liquid bottle. The top-fill design is a very innovative and convenient feature for the Topside.
Overall, I believe the Topside can become a flagship product for Dovpo. Currently, the only issue is the firmware update that needs to be resolved quickly; the lack of temperature control mode out of the box is indeed a bit regrettable for the Topside. However, in terms of overall performance, the Topside is still a device worth recommending. What do you think of the Topside?
