Are Vaping Devices Good for Quitting Smoking? Do They Help?
Why quit smoking? There are several reasons: 1. Preparing for pregnancy, 2. Bad breath, 3. Blackened teeth, 4. The disgusting feeling of spitting out black stuff after brushing teeth, 5. Worrying about lung cancer and spending money unnecessarily, 6. My wife won’t kiss me, 7. It’s cold in winter and hot in summer; I always have to go downstairs to smoke, which is both cold and hot, time-consuming and laborious, 8. Chronic rhinitis has started to flare up. These are the real feelings of someone who has smoked for 18 years...Is using e-cigarettes for quitting smoking effective?
If you are a long-term smoker of thirty or forty years trying to quit with e-cigarettes, it might be a bit challenging. Older individuals usually find it hard to accept complex new things. E-cigarettes can indeed help with quitting smoking; personally, after smoking for over a decade, I have been using e-cigarettes for half a month, and now I only smoke one or two traditional cigarettes a day and can easily refrain from smoking.
The path I took in these past half month was not without its difficulties. I experienced worsened coughing and slight lung pain, which might have been caused by my own allergies. For e-cigarettes to serve as a smoking substitute, they require suitable devices, appropriate e-liquids, and a certain level of analytical and practical skills.
Getting comfortable with the experience of using e-cigarettes can be challenging without guidance from experienced users; spending more money doesn’t guarantee success and one might easily give up. For example, there are different inhalation methods for e-cigarettes: mouth-to-lung and direct lung. Even specialized atomizers designed for flavor cannot provide the same experience as traditional cigarettes. This experience is not about the flavor of the e-liquid but rather the airflow size at the mouthpiece. Therefore, beginners often unknowingly adopt the direct lung method. If the frequency and depth of inhaling nicotine-containing e-liquids are not controlled properly, it can lead to various allergies and discomfort. Additionally, the lack of flavor in direct lung inhalation can create the illusion that it cannot replace traditional cigarettes, leading to failure in quitting.
Moreover, the cost of e-liquids is also a significant issue. A bottle of good imported e-liquid costs at least 80 yuan. If you save a bit, it might last a little over a week. I’ve heard that heavy users can consume a bottle a day, making the long-term cost of devices negligible compared to the cost of e-liquids. It all depends on how you choose to use them. There are many reputable domestic brands of e-liquids that are of good quality and can save some money; overall, it’s up to personal choice, and health is priceless.
Regardless of what others think about using e-cigarettes to quit smoking, I have managed to quit, and I have even quit e-cigarettes as well. I’m not sure why, but when I didn’t have e-cigarettes, I used to smoke 1.5 packs of strong cigarettes a day. After switching to e-cigarettes, I stopped smoking traditional cigarettes. Later, due to insufficient preparation of e-liquid, filters, and batteries for e-cigarettes, I repeatedly found myself unable to smoke e-cigarettes, which led me to quit e-cigarettes altogether, and I no longer desire them. Personally, I believe it is possible to quit because I have done it.
Finally, I would like to kindly remind those who want to use e-cigarettes as a substitute for tobacco to try to find a type of e-liquid with a pure nicotine content of 6 mg, ideally a 5:5 ratio (produced by a reputable domestic manufacturer). I hope this helps.
