After years of working overtime, I have become accustomed to puffing on a "pick-me-up" cigarette while rushing to finish proposals. My close companion in recent years has been the American Marlboro Black Ice, but now I have to say goodbye to my "partner" because my family can no longer tolerate the smell of smoke and ash. Reluctantly, I started to pay attention to vapor products that do not produce ash or odor. I initially considered getting a RELX, but a colleague advised me against it, saying, "If you’re not afraid of oil leakage, then go ahead and buy it."
After a month or two of searching, I received a set of vaporizer called JOYC from a junior on my birthday. To honor the thoughtful gift, I decided to give this vaporizer a try and share my experience with everyone.
Unboxing:

The packaging of JOYC has a strong apple vibe, which is also a favorite of tech products nowadays with its minimalist design. The outer packaging is primarily white, with the brand logo printed on the front, a product image on one side, and a slogan "At this moment, be joyful and carefree" on the other. Two words summarize it—stylish.

Flipping it over, the back has basic product parameters and information, which I won’t detail here; you can refer to the images if needed.

Opening the outer packaging reveals a layer of frosted plastic wrap with the phrase "Free to joy" printed on it, giving off a sense of freedom.
Removing the wrap reveals the true face of the JOYC vaporizer, which includes one device and three different flavored pods (Moroccan Tobacco, Icelandic Mint, and Taiwanese Green Bean Ice). The pods are housed in a capsule, and there’s a small handle above the pod placement area, indicating there’s another layer below.

The second layer contains a manual in card format, which I’ve never seen before. There’s a little surprise inside, but I’ll leave it for the buyers to discover. After taking out the manual, a box for the charging cable is revealed, which is quite large for just a charging cable, indicating a decent cost.

Here’s a family photo: one black device, three pods, one manual, and one Micro USB charging cable.

The unboxing is complete; now let’s check the product's craftsmanship and feel. The JOYC device feels surprisingly good in hand; the metal body with anodized finish feels cool and delicate. According to the official website, the body is made of aviation aluminum, and its size is similar to that of a regular lighter, with a perfect weight that doesn’t feel heavy.

The device features rounded edges all around, with a circular indicator light and two air intake holes. The bottom has a Micro USB charging port. Upon inspection, the seams are small and even, and there are no rough edges around the openings, indicating good craftsmanship.

Now let’s take a look at the "pods" used with the device. They are made of translucent material, allowing a clear view of the internal structure and e-liquid, which is beneficial for quickly checking the remaining liquid. The bottom is color-coded according to flavor: brown-red for tobacco, teal for mint, green for green bean, and there’s also a lychee flavor that should be pink.

The tail of the pod has four contact points, with yellow being the heating contact and white likely being the magnet.

I must say, the charging cable for this JOYC is very high-end; the wire is nylon-wrapped, giving it a silver thread feel, and the connection points are protected by metal springs. Although the Micro USB interface is not as advanced as Type-C, it is widely used, making it easy to find a replacement if forgotten. I would rate the charging cable a 90 out of 100.
Usage Experience:
Using the JOYC vaporizer is very simple; just take the pod out and insert it into the device. It uses a magnetic connection, and with a gentle push, it snaps into place easily. The fit is moderate, and changing pods is effortless.

Once the pod is in place, the circular indicator light on the device lights up with a soft white glow, indicating that the pod is activated. The air-sensing switch is very practical; just place it in your mouth to activate it, and it automatically shuts off when not in use. The circular indicator light will also change brightness based on the duration of the inhalation. In terms of draw resistance and vapor production, this JOYC vaporizer maintains a level comparable to traditional cigarettes.
Now, let’s discuss the flavor aspect. Perhaps due to the ceramic heating core used, the vapor from the JOYC is softer and smoother compared to traditional cigarettes, without that harsh throat hit. I tried all three flavors included in the kit: Moroccan Tobacco and Icelandic Mint both have a nicotine content of 5%, while the Taiwanese Green Bean Ice has a nicotine content of 3%.
Starting with Moroccan Tobacco, the initial flavor is a rich roasted tobacco taste, with a subtle malt flavor in the mid-notes. If you usually smoke mint or fruity flavors, Moroccan Tobacco is definitely not for you;
Icelandic Mint, also with a nicotine content of 5%, reminds me of the refreshing mint flavor found in certain green teas, providing a cool and fresh sensation from the throat to the lungs, making you feel like you just stepped out of a shower into an air-conditioned room.
Taiwanese Green Bean Ice has a lower nicotine content of 3%, making it suitable for those with a lighter craving. The flavor can be summed up in three words: green bean ice, reminiscent of eating green bean popsicles or green bean slushies, with a smooth and refreshing taste that is not cloying. Even my family members find the green bean flavor pleasant.
About Battery Life:
Having used it for half a day, I haven't had the chance to properly test the battery life yet. According to the manual, when the battery is low, the circular light will turn red, and it will also stay red while charging. When fully charged, the light goes off, indicating a user-friendly design.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the JOYC vaporizer is a satisfying product in terms of packaging, accessories, craftsmanship, ease of use, and flavor options. For someone like me, who is new to vaporizers, the fact that I don't feel repulsed by it on my first use is a testament to the quality of the JOYC. The substitution effect is evident; my dependence on traditional cigarettes has decreased from a pack a day to a pack and a half a week after two weeks of use. As for quitting smoking, that still depends on personal determination. I haven't tried the lychee-flavored pods yet, but I plan to buy them after finishing the three included flavors. Overall, if you haven't tried vaporizers or have had a bad experience with them, you might want to give this one a shot.
