China Holds 87% of Global Vape Patents and Over 90% Export Share
Recently, the Public Health and Technology Regulation Research Group of Tsinghua University released the "Research Report on Public Health and Technology Regulation: Report on the Regulation Status of the E-Cigarette Industry (2019)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report").
The report shows that the e-cigarette industry has achieved rapid growth in just over a decade. However, the current global "lagging regulation" does not match this "explosive development". Currently, there are gaps in both industry standards and regulatory mechanisms for e-cigarettes in China.
It is worth noting that this is also the first blue book of the Chinese e-cigarette industry.
Data shows that since last year, the number of e-cigarette manufacturers and sales revenue has surged. In 2018, the sales of new tobacco products reached $24.7 billion, and it is expected to reach $45 billion by 2024. Meanwhile, the speed of new brands and product iterations in the e-cigarette market is also accelerating. As of August 2018, there were a total of 25,979 e-cigarette patents globally, with China accounting for 87%.
