According to Hungary Today, British American Tobacco will build a HUF 60 billion ($162.12 million) heated tobacco product factory in Pecs, Hungary, creating 450 new jobs.

BAT already has nearly 1,000 employees there. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said the project will contribute to two important economic policy goals for Hungary—boosting exports and protecting the environment. The minister noted that the Pecs factory is carbon-neutral and that more than 80% of its output will be for export.
The project will also help develop southwestern Hungary, a region that has traditionally received less investment than the western part of the country.
Usman Zahur, regional director for Central Europe at British American Tobacco, noted that, building on more than 30 years of cooperation with Hungary, the Pecs factory could become a major manufacturing hub for smokeless alternatives.
“This major investment is an important step toward a smokeless world, offering smokers better alternatives to cigarettes,” he said. “This investment further strengthens Hungary’s strategic importance in our long-term plan for 50% of our revenue to come from new category products by 2035. The manufacturing capability highlighted by the Pecs center is key to achieving this goal.”
