Health Minister Carla Vizzotti signed a resolution prohibiting “based on” the risks associated with heated tobacco products (HTPs). The health department stated that many studies have shown that HTPs “produce aerosols containing nicotine and other chemicals (such as acetaldehyde, acrolein, and formaldehyde), [and] are harmful to health and potentially hazardous.”

“There is evidence that new products like e-cigarettes and similar products are particularly appealing to children and adolescents, and their entry into the market could lead to young people and non-smoking adults starting to smoke, threatening the achievements made in tobacco control,” the official document stated.

A national risk factor survey in 2018 showed that 1.1% of Argentine adults used e-cigarettes, while the 2018 Global Youth Tobacco Survey indicated that 7% of the 13 to 15 age group used e-cigarettes.
