Philip Morris to Produce Cigarettes at Imperial Tobacco’s Kyiv Plant in Ukraine

According to the Ukrainian International News Agency, after an agreement between the two companies, Philip Morris Ukraine will begin producing some cigarettes at Imperial Tobacco's plant in Kyiv this month.
Even after the special military operation in Russia, production at its Kharkiv plant remains suspended, and this arrangement allows Philip Morris to continue providing products to customers. It also enables Imperial Tobacco to better utilize its production capacity, part of which has been idle due to difficulties in exporting cigarettes.
“Since the war began, we have been looking for alternative ways to ensure product supply,” said Maksym Barabash, Managing Director of Philip Morris Ukraine. “We are pleased to have found a mutually beneficial solution with Imperial Tobacco, which will produce products according to PMI's high-quality standards. For Philip Morris, this is a temporary measure. We hope to resume production at the Kharkiv plant once workers are safe.”
“The Imperial Tobacco plant in Kyiv has significant production potential and a strong professional team to ensure the production of more high-quality products at the right time,” said Halyna Vorobyova, head of the board of Imperial Tobacco in Ukraine. “Since the war began, our company has been unable to conduct export deliveries; therefore, the agreement with Philip Morris will allow us to load our capacity.”
Philip Morris employed about 1,300 workers before the war. Its Kharkiv plant exported cigarettes to over 20 countries, including major markets like Japan and Egypt.
