Matt Holman, director of the Office of Science at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), will step down immediately to join Philip Morris International.

The news was first announced in a tweet by Katherine Ellen Foley (@katherineefoley), a reporter covering the FDA for Politico, though the FDA has not yet publicly confirmed it.

“PMI would not comment on what role Holman will take on. Ben [Apelberg] and Todd Cecil (both currently at CTP) will rotate as acting directors while the search continues for a permanent head of OS,” Foley tweeted. “Cecil is up first.”

Foley’s source was a memo sent to staff by CTP Director Brian King, who began his role on July 3.

In the memo obtained by Tobacco Reporter, King wrote that Holman “has been on leave since before I started at the center, as he has recused himself from all CTP/FDA work in accordance with agency policy while exploring career opportunities outside the government.”
