Earlier this year, Canada’s Minister of Health, Patty Hajdu, announced a ban on advertising vaping products in places where minors can see them, such as billboards and convenience stores. At the time, the health minister said: “The latest statistics show that vaping among high school students has doubled.” “The new measures announced today will help, but there is still more work to be done.”

Then, last week, Health Canada issued a briefing announcing that vaping products will be banned from display at points of sale accessible to youth, as well as in any public place or platform where this age group can see or hear them. In addition, any permitted advertising in places where youth are not allowed must include health warnings about the product’s health risks.
The ban applies only to provinces/territories that have not yet implemented such restrictions. Health Canada also said it is considering other regulatory measures to further restrict nicotine levels and flavors in vaping products.
