On August 21, Philip Morris applied to Japan’s Ministry of Finance to raise the prices of 21 exclusive tobacco sticks for the heated tobacco product “IQOS.” If the Ministry of Finance grants approval, the price increase will be finalized (as in past cases, approval may be granted).
Compared with other companies, IQOS tobacco sticks are already perceived as relatively expensive, and this would push prices even higher. The increase would take effect from October 2020. If the application is approved, the retail price of Marlboro in Japan will rise from 520 yen to 550 yen.
