Mevius Seven Stars Ploom in Japan expands to four flavors
In recent years, although traditional cigarette products from Japanese tobacco companies still hold about 60% of the Japanese cigarette market, they need to expand their share in the new tobacco products market to maintain competitiveness.

In recent years, Philip Morris International's HNB device IQOS has shown promising sales in the Japanese market. However, consumers are still not very accustomed to Japan Tobacco's Ploom products, which has affected their sales.

To address this, Japan Tobacco has improved the technology of the product and launched Ploom TECH+ and Ploom S to upgrade the product and strive to turn the situation around. These two products began selling in the Japanese market in March 2019.

It is reported that the upgraded Ploom technology does not directly heat tobacco but generates vapor by heating capsules containing tobacco. Therefore, its technology differs from Philip Morris International's heated tobacco products. This makes the smoking experience of Japan Tobacco's heated tobacco device less appealing than that of its competitors.

Currently, the retail price of Japan Tobacco's Ploom TECH+ is 4,980 yen, while Ploom S is priced at 7,980 yen. The price of Ploom S is comparable to the cheapest IQOS on the Japanese market, indicating that Japan Tobacco's products still have a competitive advantage in terms of price.
