Marlboro Japan has updated its packaging by adding QR codes to the back. The change has caused some confusion, but it is described as a routine annual packaging refresh rather than a sign of counterfeit products.
Recently, many friends who bought strong original Marlboro tobacco sticks in Japan noticed that the packaging has changed. Some initially thought they were fake, but in fact the packaging is slightly updated every year. This time the changes are more noticeable, with a QR code added to the back.
There is no need to suspect these are counterfeit. At present, counterfeiters still cannot reproduce the same flavor accurately; at most, the difference is between duty-free and domestic Japanese versions.
