Philip Morris International is expanding capacity at its factory in Klaipėda, Lithuania, after suspending operations in Ukraine, according to a company statement cited by Interfax.

The multinational company will reportedly construct a new production building connected to its existing storage facility.

The company said the Klaipėda factory will produce products for Ukraine. The project will cost 3.5 million euros and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

On February 25, PMI announced the suspension of its activities in Ukraine, including its factory in Kharkiv, due to Russia’s military invasion.

According to the company, in 2021 Ukraine accounted for about 2% of the multinational’s cigarette and heated tobacco shipment volume, and less than 2% of PMI’s total revenue.
